7 Quick Takes (v. VI)

If you’re new around here, every once in awhile I like to round up seven quick things that are making me laugh or melting my heart about Harrison.

I love going back to read these because it’s an easy way that I can memorialize these small little bits of his personality as he grows.

-1- Harrison greets me every morning and every evening after coming home from daycare with the same proclamation. “DRY UNDIES!!!” So proud of you, bud.

-2- The bargaining is in full swing for things he wants to do. “We watch a little bit of Cars? We watch just a little bit? 30 seconds? Yeah? Yeah?” <Shakes his head ‘yes’ to make sure we agree with him.>

-3- Out of nowhere, he’s started telling us, “CUT TO THE CHASE, MOM.” And then follows that up with, “Mader says that.” (Mader is a character from his recent Disney fav, Cars.)

-4- We’re in a major car phase over here. His favorite game to play is “car crash.” Each car must be parked in a straight line before starting the car crash, and there’s one car that he despite Nathan and I both explaining that he continues to put the car with the trunk going forward, insists that WE are wrong. Picks it out of the line and turns it the “right way,” according to him.

Similarly, there’s a book we read and one page has a big whale on it. He points EVERY TIME to it, and says matter of factly, “That’s a big shark.” “That’s a whale, bud.” <Pause> “That’s a big shark.” Mmmmmk. Shark it is.

-5- He loves to come down and exclaim, “OH NO. THIS TRASH IS FULL!” It’s like he’s finally vocalizing what I’m thinking. 😊

-6- Harrison’s fully potty trained. So it’s often that we hear from the bathroom, “Daaaaaaaaad. Come wipe my buuuuuutt.” Life as a parent is so glamorous.

-7- He says out of nowhere, “I love you, too.” Just the assuredness that he is already loved by everyone he meets.

And one football related one…

-8- Harrison LOVES his “Chiefs” book. He loves to finish my sentences. Listen everyone and you will hear about the Kansas City Chiefs and their “SUPERBOWL YEAR!” Mahomes to Watkins sure was pretty, as Mitch Holthus shouted out, “TOUCHDOWN KANSAS CITY!” And Everyone joined Andy Reid in what he’d been sayin’ for weeks. Come on now, let me hear ya, “HOW BOUT THOSE CHIEFS!” (This drives Nathan, our resident Bronco lover, crazy.)

  1. “Dry undies!” I love it. Hayden used to line his cars up and it was so sweet …and time consuming 😂 then, he’d like football players up or baseball cards, etc. His room is definitely tidier than Hadley’s so I guess that quirk has paid off 😂Poor Nathan…How does he even handle football season in KC? Haha Is he from Denver?

    1. I love how time consuming it is to line them all the cars up. Hahaha.
Nathan’s whole family is from Colorado, so he grew up a Broncos fan. He’d tell you that it wasn’t too bad being a Broncos fan most of the time because the Broncos were generally good and the Chiefs never made the playoffs. Now the tables have turned. 😂
