Friday Favorites {12.20.19}

It’s my last Friday Favorite post of 2019! I’m going to take next week off to allow myself a mental break. Time to spend with Harrison, Nathan, and family, and to allow myself to recharge for the new year, so I can bring you even better things in 2020! I hope you’re taking some time away too!

This past week we have been busy getting ready for Christmas, visiting Santa, and best of all this time of year, we got our first snowfall! Nothing makes it feel more like holidays than a fresh coat of snow on the ground. It was magical and beautiful! Which brings me to my first favorite…

This snowfall pulled me right out of my holiday funk and put me in the Christmas spirit! I know that not everyone loves snow. At some point around March, I totally agree. No more snow! But there’s a reason that I love in a place that has four seasons, and I have to believe that a part of that Michigan spirit from living four years in college off of Lake Michigan remains in me. There’s something magical and beautiful about snow. I think it makes everything look pretty, and the world just quiets for a while.

The way the world just stops and hunkers down. I love that. That fills some part of my soul to get to snuggle up with my people because there’s nowhere else to be or anything else to do. It’s the homebody in me.

Ya’ll. My child got the Chex Mix lover genes from the right parent! I’m so happy to have another Chex Mix fan in the family. He carefully digs through his bowl to first eat all of the Cheerios. Those are followed by the various types of Chex. And he usually opts out of the Cheez-its. Leftovers for Mom or Sawyer!

Homemade Chex Mix was always around during the holidays when I grew up. I’ve tried so many different recipes, but I love the traditional one that’s on the back fo the Chex boxes this time of year. The key to a really good batch of Chex Mix, though, is to 1.5x the seasonings. 🙂

My mom always had a candle burning this time of year. The soft glow of the light from the candle and the smell that filled the air always made our home feel extra cozy during the holidays.

I’ve loved Bath and Body Works three-wick candles for years. This scent is The Perfect Christmas. It’s currently out of stock, but it might be my favorite holiday candle yet! Other favorites this time of year, Fresh Balsam + Fireside (Nathan loves this one too!).

We’ve really kicked it up a notch this past week getting around town to do all the Christmas things! First up was a stop at Kansas City’s Union Station to look at the miniature train exhibits!

And next up was a visit to Santa! Harrison loved every minute of hanging out with this bearded fella…

Harrison’s shoes and bear sweatshirt are both from H&M.

And finally, I posted earlier this week about my closet transformation with Elfa from the Container Store!

I just saw yesterday that the big Elfa sale that they do once a year is live! 30% off products and installation. I love this product so much. I’ve used it now in Harrison’s closet, my closet, and in our laundry room. I wish I could re-do all of our closets with Elfa. 🙂 Maybe someday…

Lastly, I just wanted to wish each of you a happy holidays! I am so very thankful for each one of you that has read a post, commented, hopped over to Instagram to give me your thoughts, or see what our little guy is up to at the moment. I love getting to share our lives with you, getting your advice and encouragement, and growing together! I hope your holidays are peaceful and joyful, and I’ll see you back here on New Year’s Eve for a Best of 2019 post!
