A Typical Day During COVID-19 Quarantine

I’ve done a couple of typical day posts over the past year. You can go back and read them HERE and HERE. With the changes that quarantine has brought, though, I wanted to document this very different period of our lives. Nathan and I are both working full-time jobs at home, and we have Harrison here as well. It’s made for quite the change in our typical routine, so last Monday, I decided to document our full day from wake up to go to sleep. Here’s how we’re making quarantine work so far…

I still get up at 4:50 in the morning, and get a work out in before the rest of the house is up and moving.

I walk all the way to our living room to do my work out. 🙂

So many work-out classes have gone online, including Bar Method. I’m so thankful for live streaming and recordings of my favorite teachers. Just hearing familiar voices and places makes it seem a little less foreign.

Sawyer stays close at hand for morning work-outs. I think she takes this as her special time with Mom.

Then I get about an hour or more of work done before I wake up Harrison. Working from our “home office.”

About 7:00, I wake up Harrison, and get him “dressed,” which really only involves changing his shirt from a PJ shirt to a regular shirt, and then we make his breakfast.

Bed head, lovey, and bun bun all made it downstairs with us this Monday morning.

While Harrison is eating, I usually try to change into some normal clothes, and then make the bed. Something I NEVER do on a regular basis during non-quarantine times. For some reason having to look at it many times a day, and the fact that Nathan has set up his make-shift office in our bedroom has given me more motivation to do it in the mornings.

And on Mondays, I take my weekly bump picture. 23 weeks as of last Monday, and growing fast! Especially with all of the Oreos I’ve been eating sporadically throughout the day…

After getting ready, it’s my time to work in the morning while Nathan watches Harrison. Nathan usually takes Harrison for his first walk of the day sometime in the morning if it’s nice outside.

I listen to the Daily podcast to stay up to date on the news, and work for a couple of hours. Then, it’s time for me to take over Harrison duty to let Nathan start working for the day.

Lots of playing upstairs, usually some type of drawing or art project, a little bit of reading, and whatever Harrison’s feeling that morning.

Then we go downstairs to get lunch ready. A very heavy rotation of grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, and quesadilla at this house.

Mac and cheese was served this particular day.

Then, Harrison goes down for his afternoon nap, and I get back to work with a bite for lunch.

I work for another three or four hours, Nathan gets Harrison up from nap. Then, I take over late afternoon for the rest of the day. Sometimes, we need a change of scenery from our playroom…

And we usually FaceTime our family sometime in the afternoon. A quick FaceTime with cousin Evie and Aunt Kendra this particular day…

And some working out the wiggles upstairs or outside playing. Until Nathan comes to join us when he’s done in the evening.

Dad always plays a little rougher than Mom, which Harrison LOVES. Then we make dinner and eat together. After dinner, we wind down for the day. Usually play a little hide and seek. Harrison’s favorite hiding place right now is under the blanket in Mom & Dad’s room. Then, it’s time to get ready for bedtime. A quick sponge bath, and some reading before bed.

After Harrison goes down, I usually get a shower and watch some TV with Nathan or catch up on extra work stuff I didn’t have time for during the day. Then, I’m in bed by 9:30 or 10 for the night!

  1. Isn’t so weird how we have all started to adapt to this new “normal” … I hope that families will remain as close as they are right now after life returns to “business as usual” but something tells me that come this time next year our lives will be overscheduled and super busy again. I personally can’t wait for that because I live alone and being home all day ALONE can be truly exhausting (emotionally) but I’ve learned a LOT about myself and I have learned to be so grateful for fresh air, drive-thru’s, target, and Online shopping! What is one thing you did today to make yourself feel “normal”?? I personally went for a walk this evening after work just for a change of surrounding and it made me feel so much better! Now I’m reading blogs for the evening before bed time!!
