August Book Review

It’s book review day! A little bit of a shortened month, and I didn’t get through as many book as I did the previous two months. Only three books, and…I was less than impressed.

First this month, I read…

Beach Read by Emily Henry. And…this wasn’t my jam. It was like a rom com, but in book form. I guess if I had gone into it realizing that’s what I was going to be reading, maybe I would have enjoyed it more. I just don’t love reading this type of book. I love watching a rom com, but reading one, well, meh. No rom com seems believable or real, but, for me, reading one feels even more unbelievable and uncomfortable. It’s a me problem. Not this book’s problem.

So, after Beach Read, I finished up…

Malibu Rising. This book has been all over book reviews this summer, suggested to me over and over again, and I was just meh about it. I thought it was really well done flipping back and forth between present day for these four siblings that the book revolves around, and the past, their childhood of growing up, dealing with a father that was mostly unavailable, and a mother who suffered from alcoholism. It was really well written, intriguing, but depressing.

So, after two books out of the gate of not loving, I really went downhill with…

Next Level Basic from Vanderpump Rules stardom, Stassi Schroeder. You all know I love a good memoir from a reality TV star, but I couldn’t even finish this. It was terribly written. And so surface level that it was painful. Ugh. Just terrible. Thankfully, I only borrowed it from the library, so no money was wasted.

What a dud of a month! I JUST finished one other book, but I’m going to include that next month. But I think we’re on our way up!

Ok, let me know what’s your favorite book lately in the comments!

  1. I guess I’m in the minority because many didn’t like MR and I loved it. I’m currently reading Four Winds. Talk about depressing! …but I can’t put it down. It’s captivated my attention

    1. I’ll have to look into that one! There were parts that I enjoyed about Malibu Rising, and certainly thought the characters and the story were intriguing, but I just kind of felt empty at the end of it. 🙁
