Over the week of the Fourth of July, my family and I packed up the car and headed to South Dakota to spend a week in the Black Hills visiting my parents. They have a cabin just outside of Deadwood. I look forward to going up there for a week every year. It’s cool, crisp, and the mountain air is perfection.
If you missed Part 1 of our trip, I blogged about it yesterday HERE!
Part 2 starts with a hike on the Mickelson Trail. Baby J absolutely LOVED this hike. In fact, even though we took the stroller, Harrison rode in the stroller most of the time and Jonathan walked!
That evening, we headed to my parents’ cabin for dinner and playing around outside. The next morning, we went into town for my grandfather’s memorial service. He passed away during 2020, and with the pandemic, the Memorial service didn’t happen until this year.
The rest of the day involved hitting up a park, naps, and Harrison helping Mimi weed. His very first $1 he’d ever earned!
Always with the silly faces at this age!
The following day, we rented e-bikes for a ride on the Mickelson trail. This was so much fun!! We had done regular bikes, but after renting an e-bike, I may never go back to a regular bike again. It’s so much more enjoyable. 🙂
That evening, we went to my Aunt Gayle & Rich’s cabin, which is on land bordering my parents’ land, for happy hour drinks and THE BEST margaritas I have ever have. Period. Even Harrison got in the cocktails with his own margarita mocktail!
Our last day in South Dakota, we went into Spearfish to play at the park, wade in the stream, and feed the fish at the fish hatchery. That evening, we celebrated Jonathan’s upcoming second birthday with cupcakes and a present from Mimi and Papa!
I just adore this little boy so much! He’s at such a fun age when it feels like every day he has a new word, and is talking more and more. Love watching our little boy’s personality really come to life!
We missed my sister and her family, but we had such a good trip with our little family!
It does sound like a wonderful time with family!
It was good to get away and enjoy some time in the mountains. ☺️
Looks like an amazing trip! Your hike photos are beautiful. e-bikes would be so much fun. So much family time!
E bikes were surprisingly a ton of fun! Definitely made the hills muuuuch easier.
It bet!
