August Garden Tour

It’s my monthly garden tour! The pests have slowed down, finally, and most of the garden still looks great and is growing like crazy. It’ll probably be another month or so before it starts to fade, and I start taking out my annual flowers.

It’s incredible to look back at the pictures from June and just how much things grow in a few months!

The garden path is still looking pretty good. The speedwell Veronica blooms have faded, and day lilies are done for the season. The lantana at the bottom left of this picture above hasn’t performed as well as I thought it would. I’m thinking maybe this spot doesn’t get as much sun as I thought it did, so I might try a part shade plant there next year.

The coleus, sweet potato vine, and sedum are all taking over their respective pots. I don’t think I’ll use zinnias again like this in pots. They haven’t performed anywhere near as well as I expected them to.

The moss roses, however, despite being cut back multiple times have far outgrown their little pot on the table. Bees swarm this pot every morning…along with…

These flowers!

I haven’t had any caterpillars this year. And I don’t think I will on my parsley. It’s being guarded by green lacewings, who eat any caterpillar that emerges.

Everybody seems happy in this set of pots.

It bought I was done with chicken wire after trapping and re-homing a chipmunk from our patio, but the squirrels proved me wrong. So here it is again… chicken wire up around my hibiscus. I haven’t gotten a bloom in at least a month thanks to the squirrels. 😡

Little man came out to see what I was doing.

West side garden is looking beautiful. The zinnias haven’t gotten as big as last year’s crop.

Marigolds have exploded in the past month.

The lantana, sweet potato vine and coleus here have been very happy. The dahlia hasn’t bloomed in a month, and you can’t even really see it in this picture. I definitely won’t be using dahlias again in planters. They’ve been my biggest disappointment this year.

So there we have it! That’s August in the garden. Previous month’s tours are linked below!
