Our 6th Wedding Anniversary

Sunday was our sixth wedding anniversary. We celebrated by going to the pumpkin patch with the boys and cousins. šŸ™‚ For our five year anniversary, we took a trip to New York just the two of us and had so much fun. This year, with a new baby and COVID, we got take-out sushi, popped a bottle of champagne, but switched to bourbon after one glass, and just enjoyed a dinner together after the boys were asleep.

I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A on our last six years together with both Nathan and me. When I pitched this idea to Nathan, he was excited to finally be included in the blog. šŸ™‚

Whatā€™s Up Wednesday {04.29.20}

I remember so vividly writing my last Whatā€™s Up Wednesday at the end of March, and just having no clue how this April would unfold with the virus. There was so much uncertainty and anxiety, and while things donā€™t seem that different in the sense that weā€™re all still at home, and thereā€™s still this crazy virus out there, somehow living a month plus of this has led me to a bit of acceptance and less fear. I donā€™t know how you all are hanging in there. Iā€™d love to hear in the comments whatā€™s been going on for you guys this past month!

Iā€™m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you whatā€™s going on in our life lately!

1: WHAT WEā€™RE EATING THIS WEEK:

  • Sunday: Leftover Italian sausages and brats
  • Monday: Pot roast in the slow cooker
  • Tuesday: Leftovers
  • Wednesday: Cheesy Gnocchi Florentine
  • Thursday: Leftovers
  • Friday: Take out from a local restaurant!

Iā€™ve blogged about this before, but right now, weā€™re very blessed that we are both still fully employed, so weā€™ve been trying to get take out from one of our favorite local restaurants at least once a week to do some small part in helping all of these amazing places that we love stay afloat during this time. It may seem small and petty, but itā€™s a great treat for us and weā€™re hoping that itā€™s some small part in keeping restaurants afloat.

A Little Family Introduction

I thought I’d take a minute as a bit of introduction to the Lane family. A little who’s who.

And the best place to start is with my little family…

Our little Lane family.

Nathan and I have been married for five years! We met while working at a public accounting firm, but Nathan has since moved on to a sales role at his current company. Nathan is a K-State grad, and grew up most of his childhood in Kansas City. Nathan is one of the smartest people I know. He’s confident, has an immense passion for teaching and mentoring people, including little Harrison, and is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to something he finds interesting. We often times reap the rewards of that pursuit for perfection when it comes to grilling and smoking. šŸ™‚

Friday Favorites: Our Valentineā€™s Day Tradition

Many years ago maybe a year or so after Nathan and I started dating, we started a tradition on Valentineā€™s Day. Rather than going out and fighting to get a reservation at a fancy restaurant for Valentineā€™s Day, we decided that making homemade pizzas and sharing a nice bottle of wine or limited edition beer would be the way that we celebrated the holiday.

Valentineā€™s pizzas from 2016

Sure, we still exchange cards and small gifts of some of our favorite things. But, this tradition of our Valentineā€™s meal has continued each year since then. Weā€™ve perfected our pizza sauce. And this year, even Harrison will get in on the action.

Photo Diary: A Spectacular Christmas

We had a magical Christmas. It was quite the departure from our first Christmas with Harrison, where we spent the whole day home with the stomach flu and exiled from all familyā€™s houses. This year, we did Christmas morning at our house. Harrison could have played with his kitchen set from Santa the rest of the day. Then we did Christmas brunch at my parents, and we were lucky enough to have my sister and brother-in-lawā€™s family here for Christmas this year. They split their holidays between KC and South Dakota, where my brother-in-law is from. And then finally, we finished out the day with Nathanā€™s family for dinner and round three of Santa and presents. We had so much fun watching the excitement and wonder in our little boysā€™ eyes.

This is going to be a whole bunch of pictures capturing our day, including Christmas Eve services. Buckle up!

A Year in Review: 2019

I love looking back at old pictures. Putting together this post let me re-live so many happy moments, including watching our little baby grow up before my eyes. We had a wonderful year, really getting into our groove as a family of three (four if you count the dog!). Hereā€™s how our year unfolded…

In January, our year started with Christmas! Yes, Christmas. Harrison shared his stomach flu with our whole family for actual Christmas Day, so our year started with a make-up Christmas Day with my family…

New York City – Stay & Play

Right before Thanksgiving, Nathan and I got away for a few days in NYC to celebrate our anniversary. We had so much fun getting to spend time talking, playing around the city, and eating so much! Earlier this week I shared all of the amazing food and drinks that we loved in NYC. Today Iā€™m going to share some of our favorite activities from this visit to NYC! Iā€™ve saved down to my Instagram Highlights all of my favorite clips from the trip too.

Nathan and I have been to NYC numerous times, both together and as kids with our families. So, the things that we chose to do this time around were mostly off the beaten path. If youā€™ve never been to NY before, you absolutely need to to the big touristy things – The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the World Trade Center Memorial. They are not to be missed things as an American city, or anyone visiting NYC.

Nathan had never done the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island before, and it had been 15 years since the last time I went, so we did hop over to Ellis Island for the afternoon one day.

New York City – Eat & Drink

Nathan & I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary by taking a long weekend getaway to one of our favorite cities: NYC. This was our third time to go to the city together, although, Nathan goes often for work. It was a wonderful four days getting to lay around in bed in the morning not watching Elmo, do some things in the city that weā€™ve never done before, and see some shows! I saved down my favorite clips from the vacation on my Instagram Highlights.

Iā€™m breaking up our NYC trip into two parts: Eat & Drink, and Play & Stay tomorrow!

Joeā€™s Pizza in Greenwich Village

Joeā€™s Pizza (Greenwich) || Yaā€™ll. We have found our NY pizza. Kevin Bacon said that he wanted his last meal on Earth to be a slice from Joeā€™s, and after grabbing a slice…three separate times on our trip (YES! THREE!), we totally agree. It is the perfect, quintessential New York slice. Simple. Crisp, yet soft. Incredible. Nathan and I both agreed that this pizza was ā€˜go out of your wayā€™ good.

Fun Fall Date Ideas

Fall can be such a romantic couple of months. With the leaves changing and the chill in the air, I love getting outside and getting to enjoy the cooler days after a hot summer.

One of the things that Nathan and I try to do on a regular basis is having at least a monthly date night. We take turns planning the date. Sometimes we like to surprise the other with the activity, and other times it’s planned well in advance. I look forward to these date nights like I look forward to sleep in the evening. It’s a few hours where we focus on each other and us; having fun together, talking, and remembering why we fell in love in the first place. Here are some of our favorite fall dates:
