Oooooooh. I don’t think there is a more “Lauren” post than talking about favorite TV shows. I’m a sucker for a reality show. I totally dig a really well done drama. And I’m always in search of a new show that people are lovin’.
I’m linking up with Shay and Erika to share my favorite binge shows.
In July, we looked at a Typical Day. And today is my favorite topic of all….TV shows!
This is going to cover the whole gamut of some TV shows that I love and keep going back to over and over. Some current, some past.
Favorite feel good shows (including my favorite show of all time):
Gilmore Girls is my favorite show of all time. I watched Gilmore Girls back when it was on the WB, and I had to record it in my dorm room on a VCR. I adore it – the characters, watching Rory grow up – I grew up right along with her. It has smart, quick witted writing, and timeless stories of growing up. I own alllll of the box sets on DVD, and I’ve rewatched it so many times I can’t even remember what count I’m up to at this point. I absolutely love it. Every bit of it. I’d move to Stars Hollow if it were a real place. I can quote most of the show. And right now, it’s on Netflix – so get yourself over there and check it out if you’ve never watched it before!
And the only show that has come close to my love for Gilmore Girls is…
Parenthood. Character development, real life growing up and doing life as a big, messy family – this has it. (Side note: If you ever read Lauren Graham’s biography, she talks about how this was the best job she ever had.) And while we’re talking about Parenthood, I fell obligated to make a confession. It’s not going to be popular, but I feel like it needs to be said. I tried to watch This Is Us…I did. I watched it for a WHOLE SEASON. But all I could think about was how it was trying to be Parenthood, and, in my opinion, not doing it as well. Ugh. I know. I’m in the minority here. My mother-in-law tells me that they are just different and can’t be compared, but I just can’t help it.
I say all of this, though, because if you like This Is Us and haven’t watched Parenthood, my guess is that it will be right up your alley. It’s also on Netflix now :).
Favorite Dramas:
Breaking Bad, Billions, Homeland (the first couple of seasons, because in my opinion, it went seriously downhill after that), and Stranger Things. All phenomenal. When it comes to shows that Nathan and I watch together and get really super excited about, it’s usually dramas like these. But all of these shows require more brain power to watch than…
Favorite reality shows:
If I could be a TV critic, it would be for reality TV shows. I could debate at length why one Real Housewives franchise is better than another (the original OC is still my fav), why Southern Charm spin-offs just don’t have the same charm and good cast as the original, and why there are just some teen moms that are more interesting to watch than others. But my favorite reality shows right now (that even Nathan will watch with me) are…
Both of these are on Bravo. I’ve heard it said somewhere else that Bravo just seems to have down how to make a REALLY GOOD reality show, but it’s true. They own this market, and both V-pump and Southern Charm are so fun to watch.
What’s on your must watch list that I’ve been missing out on? Leave me a suggestion in the comments!
Next month for the link up, we’ll look at calendars!
Yes to Gilmore Girls and yes to Parenthood! And I am also in the minority and fell of the The is Us bandwagon fairly quickly. I just couldn’t do it! My other favorite show of all time is Friday Night Lights – the BEST!!!!
My husband LOVED Friday Night Lights! He watched it when it was on TV, but I’ve still never seen it. Can you stream it anywhere?? I may have to go find it and add it to my queue. 🙂
Now I need to put some of these shows on my to watch list
Not sure if that will fit in with Mickey Mouse Club – you’ll have to ask Maverick and Taylor if they’ll allow it. 🙂
BIG fan of Billions, too! I am watching Breaking Bad now, and am really liking it!
Billions is SO GOOD! And almost all of our friends here don’t watch it – I was starting to think Nathan and I were the only ones!
We could be neighbors in Stars Hollow! I love Gilmore Girls sooooo much! And I just wish I could drink coffee like Lorelai! You are so right, there is no other Charm in any of the Southern Charms besides Charleston! I’m a big Cameron fan all the way!
Oh my goodness, yes! Cameran is the best! Do you follow her on Instagram? It’s my dose of Southern Charm when the show is on hiatus. 🙂
