Harrison is in a stage where he’s really loving reading. He has favorite books, and ones that he doesn’t ever want to read. There are ones that he likes to read to himself. Just last week, his daycare sent us this picture from nap time…
I love switching out our bedtime books with the holidays coming up or a change in the seasons. There are so many Christmas books that I remember from my childhood that I adored, and wanted Harrison to grow up with, and there are also some new books that we’re loving this holiday season.
Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect: I love this one from my childhood. Harrison’s not quite old enough for this one yet, but it’s such a lovely story about a little Christmas tree in a forest of Christmas trees that rather than being perfect gives itself to house all of these little animals in the forest that desperately need help and shelter, so it’s branches are bent and used for a higher purpose. I just love it. I can’t wait until Harrison is old enough for it!
Little Blue Truck’s Christmas: This is the current front runner in Harrison’s book rotation. We love the Little Blue truck series. I can currently recite the whole original book from memory. This Christmas version is just cute, and to Harrison’s delight every time, it lights up at the very end. A score in any toddler’s book!
Christmas in a Manger: A cute little story about the major characters in the Christmas story. Perfect for a little guy.
Llama Llama Holiday Drama: Harrison’s also a big fan of the Llama Llama series of books too, so we had to add the holiday book of Llama Llama. They’re just cute little books with rhymes. This one talks about how the real joy of Christmas is in the people around you.
The Night Before Christmas: A classic. A must for any children’s library.
The Mitten: This one is another one from my childhood. Again, it’s a little too old for Harrison just yet, but it’s about a little mitten that’s used to house a bunch of animals from the cold. It’s sweet and heartwarming.
What are your favorite children’s books for the holidays?
I still remember my dad reading The Night Before Christmas to us every night leading up to Christmas. It was just a little Golden Book but I remember every illustration in my mind like it was yesterday. I love books and the people who read them💕
That’s such a cool idea! May have to do that with Harrison!
