Friday Favorites: Our Valentine’s Day Tradition

Many years ago maybe a year or so after Nathan and I started dating, we started a tradition on Valentine’s Day. Rather than going out and fighting to get a reservation at a fancy restaurant for Valentine’s Day, we decided that making homemade pizzas and sharing a nice bottle of wine or limited edition beer would be the way that we celebrated the holiday.

Sure, we still exchange cards and small gifts of some of our favorite things. But, this tradition of our Valentine’s meal has continued each year since then. We’ve perfected our pizza sauce. And this year, even Harrison will get in on the action.

For some reason in particular, I look forward to this tradition each year. Getting to spend time cooking together, especially now with a little one, is so rare. One person ends up having to entertain Harrison while the other cooks often. But making pizzas brings me back to memories of our first few years together. Working together on something, and getting to enjoy the end result.

We’re making out own pizza dough this year, and the toppings are all prepped: pepperoni for Nathan, and goat cheese and artichokes for me.

Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s weekend with the one that you love.
