Lanes Lately – September 2021

Well I’m thankful that this was a four day week. Work felt like a five day week crammed into a four day week, though. 🙃 We don’t have much going on this weekend, except a friend’s birthday party for Harrison, and that’s kind of the way we like our weekends!

MAKING: I planned for EASY recipes for this week, getting back into our routine, and Nathan is traveling for work for the first time since December 2019. Tacos and spaghetti with meat sauce have been my go-to’s this week after being gone last week.

We realized on a walk last weekend that this is the first time baby J will go 24 hours without seeing him in his whole life.

Not to belabor the point, but it’s been such a huge blessing to have Nathan at home for so long, especially while J was little. With the amount of traveling he used to do pre-pandemic, I wasn’t sure that I could work full time after Jonathan was born and keep up with the house and babies. Things have changed so much since that point in time. And I’m particularly thankful for the time we’ve had together as a family.

WEARING: Still a lot of my summer uniform! Cheap t-shirt, and athletic shorts from Lulu.

We have one more vacation coming up, so I don’t think I’ve mentally switched to yearning for jeans and sweatshirts and sweaters for the fall quite yet.

LOVING: I came home to the garden looking really beautiful, so I’m soaking up the last of my summer garden before I have to start prepping it for fall.

I set up all of my gardens on timers for drip irrigation while I was gone. The configuration of our patio doesn’t really allow for the pots to be on drip irrigation when everything is in it’s proper spot, but it worked beautifully. And I think KC also got a ton of rain while we were gone, so everything looked very well watered. 😊. I loved the drip irrigation so much I may end up trying to figure out how to use it next year all the time. It’s so nice to wake up in the morning with that stream of water running out the bottom because everything is already watered.

USING: This vacuum

I think we can call 2020 and 2021 the year of the vacuums for me. I added vacuums like it was my job. Which it kind of was, because we didn’t have any help house cleaning for a very long time with COVID and not wanting people to be in our home.

Between my robotic vacuum, and the Dyson, our floors are finally nice and mostly crumb free. Mostly. (Let’s not get carried away. We still have a dog that sheds as her full time job, and two little kids.)

DRINKING: After a week of eating and drinking what I wanted, I’m drinking a ton of water and La Croix this week. Time to detox from all of the glasses of wine and yummy food we ate at my parents’ house!

ENJOYING: I love time away, but I feel best back in our routine at home. Time away always gives me a much better appreciation for home and our normal.

Baby J has really taken off this past week. He is up exploring and walking everywhere. It’s so much fun to watch his confidence grow!

Now we just have a couple of years of making sure he understands his limits before he can be trusted to play without the watchful eyes of Mom and Dad. ☺️

What have you all been up to??
