Around mid-March last year, our home office became one of the most important rooms in our house. I’m sure that many of you can relate. All of sudden I was spending 8, 9, sometimes 12 hours a day in my home office. I’ve made a few upgrades over that time to make things a little more comfortable.
For so long I had a plastic folding table as my desk. We upgraded to a regular desk after looking EVERYWHERE for a good fit. This desk is from World Market. It’s been nice to move up to a real desk, but I wish the drawer in the desk was a little bit larger.
Double monitor setup was necessary with work. We actually bought a home computer at the beginning of quarantine, so I use that monitor as my extended monitor display for work.
I find that the using a laptop stand helps with making the displays more even for scanning from one screen to the other. I bought a really basic one off of Amazon.
I FINALLY purchased a second office desk chair. We went ten months with either Nathan or myself using a very hard and uncomfortable kitchen chair at our desks. I get kind of swallowed up in those really large overstuffed executive desk chairs, and I honestly find them uncomfortable. So I opted for a smaller chair that offered me more support and less fluff.
I bought this one from Pottery Barn.
I keep a notebook at my desk for writing down to-do’s – both personal and work related. I re-write my to-do list every morning with new items that were added the previous day, and removing the things that I got done.
I keep a heater by my feet, because the front room that my office is in can get a little chilly in the morning.
My sister and brother-in-law gave me my picture stand to the right of my laptop. It has about 12 different pictures of my boys that I rotate every morning. A couple times a year, I’ll order updated prints and put the old prints in the boys’ keepsake boxes.
Blue light filtering glasses, pens, and water bottle finish out the things that I keep at my desk at all times.
Have you made some upgrades to your home office during quarantine too?
