October & November Book Review

It took me two months to get here, but I finally have a quorum of books to review for you guys!

I started out October reading Set Boundaries, Find Peace. I started following the author, Nedra Glover Tawwab on Instagram not ago, and I’m always looking for books that give me new insight into how to improve upon my own life. This one was only ok for me. After following her for several months, I felt like many of the concepts she talks about in regards to where people struggle setting boundaries are the basis of her Instagram account as well. So I didn’t feel particularly inspired by anything new in the book. Are they good concepts? Sure. Just didn’t really have me walking away wanting to really make a lot of changes to my own life.

Next, I read Liane Moriarty’s latest book Apples Never Fall. I was first introduced Liane Moriarty through reading Big Little Lies, which was later turned into an HBO show. It was fabulous. Apples Never Fall was very entertaining. I think the plot was intriguing, with a few twists and interesting character development, but wasn’t as good as Big Little Lies. Still a really good book, though!

Killers of the Flower Moon was a suggestion from my Dad. I had never heard about the Osage Indian murders, so I found this book to be very interesting, and deeply sad. It tells the historical story through the eyes of an Osage Indian, as well as a detective assigned to solve the murders.

The last book I finished up this month was Maid. I finished the book with this look on my face 😟. This is a memoir by Stephanie Land about her young adulthood, thrown into the world of single motherhood and the need to provide for her daughter without any support of family. It walks through her experiences living in a homeless shelter, taking work as a Maid, and eventually becoming an author. It is profound and deeply changed the way I thought about poverty. I wish every single person read this. For the non-readers, it’s been turned into a Netflix show, which I haven’t watched yet, but I hear is really moving as well!

I’m reading One Day In December right now, and if you’re looking for a light, fun holiday read, I’d definitely suggest adding this one to your cart this month!

    1. Same, friend. Same. Looking forward to watching the Netflix show. It’s like I’ve turned over a new leaf actually reading the book first this time. 😅
