I’ve so enjoyed sharing how the garden has grown over this past season. September, though, is generally the end of our summer gardening season. Invariably, October brings at least a few cold snaps, so I pull all of my annuals out in September and tidy up the garden for the winter. I’ll keep a few late season annuals until the first freeze, just because they still look so beautiful. And, of course, will add some mums and replace a few container plants to “autum-ize” a few of my containers. But this is the last true garden update for the summer!
I’m going to include pictures of how things looked just planted in June as a reference point of June to September. September is certainly not most plants best months, but it is truly magnificent how much growth happens in just a few months!

The coleus has just grown beyond my wildest imagination in this front container.

Dead. Hahahaha. I pulled it all out at the beginning of the month because it was dead, dead, dead. My streak of killing all of the plants in this front porch container continues.

The marigolds, while still huge, have reached the end of the season when they look well-kept. So they will be coming out shortly. 🙂

This area looked beautiful last year, and this year it just never really took off. Not sure what the difference was, to be honest.

It’s been a good gardening year. Dare I say my favorite combinations to date?! (I think I say that every year!) But I already have notes about some perennials I want to want to different spots, as well as have to do again! Like those white supertunia vistas in the side garden.
Happy almost end of gardening season, friends! What was your favorite flower this past summer??
Love the before and afters. Best garden in KC!
Awww. Thank you!!
Oh I just love the before and after shots! Your plants grew so much.
They really did! Sometimes I get discouraged by the end of the season because things are looking past their prime, but comparing them to the early June pictures does give me so much perspective on just how much they’ve done this season. ☺️
What an amazing gift that you have!
Thank you!
What a successful summer in the garden. It’s great you have this hobby that you love so much and that everyone can enjoy your work.
It really was a good summer garden year! I learn so many things each year. ☺️
