What feels like a lifetime ago, my last What’s Up Wednesday, I was so excited for spring on the horizon, and my Fridays at home with Harrison. I was looking forward to all of the things that I love about this season. Being outside, gardening again, and getting to enjoy the good weather. And now that we sit here almost two weeks into self-quarantine, while none of the things has been completely taken away from me, it certainly feels different and more complicated.
I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life lately!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
- Sunday: Leftover homemade pizza
- Monday: Tacos
- Tuesday: Leftovers
- Wednesday: Sausage Vodka Pasta
- Thursday: Leftovers
- Friday: TBD
2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
What turned out to be the good old days. When you could run to Target, and be assured cleaning supplies. That you could have birthday parties and book club with your friends. That you didn’t worry about your friends who were now scrambling to wonder how they would make money for rent, and friends who worked in the medical profession that are now putting their lives at much higher risk for us every single day. Life before quarantine. Life with extended family and friends mostly. Life that looked like this:
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
The tulips are starting to come up that we planted last fall.
I’m loving that things on our patio are starting to green up, and soon the hummingbirds will return.
I am loving really simple time with family. I sure do like hanging with them a lot. And that makes some of this a bit easier to stomach.
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Ha. It’s hard to remember life before quarantine! Most of March, though, we’ve been trying to get outside whenever it’s nice. Harrison LOVES playing soccer with his Daddy. Occasionally, when Daddy isn’t here or is tired, he’ll opt for asking Mom to play soccer with him. But I can assure you, it’s not nearly as much fun as Dad, and with carrying a bowling ball around inside of me right now, it doesn’t last nearly as long as he would like to.
The grill has been fired back up, and we’ve already gotten several days of AMAZING hamburgers. Including this creation:
We’ve celebrated family birthdays, and invitations went out for Harrison’s second birthday party…and then quarantine came.
And since then, we’ve done walks when it’s nice out. But we’ve done a whole lot of watching Dinosaurs (that’s Land Before Time, in case you were unsure), playing indoor soccer, and hide and seek. And we’re surviving heavily on FaceTime with our families.
And then, of course, Harrison broke his leg. I wrote about it HERE. But we’ve spent the past few days getting used to yet another new normal while Harrison learns to get around the house.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
However long this period in history is going to last…? Aren’t we all?
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Planning Harrison’s big boy bedroom transition! And keeping the house clean, at all times. And disinfecting stuff like a crazy person.
Trying to keep up with giving Harrison’s busy mind and body things that will keep him interested and occupied, while two people are at home working full time jobs!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
Please see above answer about “What am I dreading…”. I’m most excited about human contact again without the fear of catching some terrible virus.
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
And I’m still reading this book…
To Have and To Hold. Still liking it. Will still be reading it for the next few months probably. #slowestreaderalive
Aside from the Land Before Time, I’m finishing up Unbelievable on Netflix. I thought it was really good, if you’re looking for a new series to try out during this time at home!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
I’ve been listening to so much NEWS lately. All the news. Every last bit of it. And I have to say, I may have reached my limit on news intake.
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
I can’t wait to read this on other people’s posts. I’m wearing all the athleisure wear in the world. I haven’t gotten my butt out of yoga pants in DAYS. Showering is at a minimum. Forget about doing my hair. And definitely not spending the time doing my make-up. That’s one plus side to quarantine!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We’re going to watch lots of Elmo, likely. Maybe get outside if it’s nice and grill or smoke something. Clean the house, and enjoy the time that we get to spend as a family with absolutely nowhere to be and nothing to do.
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
I feel like none of us are really sure what this next month will hold for us as a country and the entire world. I would love if something dramatic happened and we were out of this coronavirus thing. The fact is that Kansas City has put in place a 30 day stay at home quarantine on the city and its metropolitan areas. I absolutely think that’s the right decision, but it does make me sad that we won’t be celebrating Harrison’s birthday with our familIes. And we won’t be doing Easter egg hunts with our cousin, or even going to physical church services.
And for a planner, it’s really hard to live in the one day at a time reality that we’re all having to live in right now. But maybe this will be a really good lesson in living in just the present moment, right here.
So sorry about the broken leg! Life with boys is never dull. When my three were young there were times it felt like I was living at the ER (and usually for injuries). All my mom friends had mainly girls at the time and just could not understand what was going on our at house. LOL.
Hahaha. This is definitely a first for me, but most boy moms seem to assure me it will not be the last. 😆
I’m finding so much comfort in reading all these posts. We’re all going through the same things, in isolation yes, but still together. My what I’m looking forward to next month, and my what I’m excited about, were basically the same as yours.
Haha. Us and the rest of the world!
