These are some of my favorite posts to read on others’ blogs. A little peak into a whole variety of things going on in Lane Life Lately. Today, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
I’m making two meals this week: Mix and Match Mama’s Sausage Vodka Pasta + Cafe Delite’s Balsamic Baked Chicken Breast with Mozzarella Cheese
2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Where the time goes, honestly. You all know I’m a Timehop addict. Timehop is an app that shows you pictures from that day in years past. And right now, I’m in a whole land of newborn Harrison-ness from three years ago. And I’m just baffled about how it happened that the little kid that stands in front of me now is the same helpless little baby just three years ago.
I’m sure other mamas can understand. I just look at these pictures, and feel like the vibrant memories of his little-ness and how hard everything seemed with a brand new baby are starting to dull. And it has me all sorts of teary because I’ve so desperately tried to hang on to it all. How those days felt learning about him, how we wondered what his personality would be like, the new parent foibles. Time is a thief.
3. WHAT I’M LOVING:
I have to say, I love three year old soccer. It makes me laugh and brings me so much joy watching Harrison run around having fun with his friends.
They’re all huddled up here around the snack bowl at the end of the game. 😂
Also, I’m in love my new Always Pan…
It’s the perfect size to cook so many of our dinners. The built in spoon rest just makes me weirdly excited and happy. I’m in love with it. And it comes in so many cute colors. Red, green, terracotta, creamy white. This one is blue salt.
4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
See above. Three year old soccer.
A couple of weeks ago, I spent an entire almost week hauling plants in and out of the garage because of sub-freezing temperatures and SNOW in the forecast for April. I remember my mom doing this as a child, and thinking to myself, that’s truly crazy to have to haul stuff in and out. And here I am, repeating the cycle. Of just can’t help myself at the greenhouse, so I end up buying loads of pretty plants that I haul in and out of the garage for several weeks before they can be planted.
This pictures above is a picture of ranunculus that I snipped right before our April snow. They’ll be coming out soon anyways, as they are just about done blooming and don’t like the summer heat and humidity. All of the ruffle petals, though. 😍
5. WHAT I’M DREADING:
It’s garden planting season, and I both LOVE planting season and dread the part of it that comes up with cleaning up hedges and bushes and re-mulching everything for the spring. The planting flowers part is wonderful. 😊
6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
I’m working on another letter to Jonathan for his monthly birthday. The first year of their lives, I write the boys a letter to them each month to celebrate their monthly birthday. I started sharing Jonathan’s here on the blog.
I’m also working on spring planting, and finding all of the plants I want for the spring! I shared my favorite spring annuals for the heat and humidity of Kansas City on my Instagram the other week, and saved it down as a highlight for you all.
7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
I’m excited about the possibilities of this summer. Harrison playing soccer now, and he’s signed up for swim lessons and soccer camp later this summer. I’m excited for at least one trip to the Black Hills to my parents’ cabin. I’m hoping we can make it maybe twice, though, this year.
I’m just excited to have a bit more of spending time with friends and extended family this summer, but hoping I don’t lose sight of the lessons learned from this pandemic. The joy that comes from not over scheduling and allowing time to just be.
8. WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING:
Hey…still the slowest reader alive. Still reading Thomas Rhett’s wife, Lauren’s book…
We said goodbye this past week to one of our favorite shows to watch together…
We also watched (in two parts, because I can’t stay up past 9:30 these days…) the Netflix documentary about the college admissions scandal.
9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Currently: Jonathan talking to himself in his crib. He’s a guaranteed up at 6:30am baby, but happily rolls around and talks to himself for another half an hour before I go to get him.
Playing on Spotify on the reg: New Eric Church 👍🏻
10. WHAT I’M WEARING:
I do not take pictures regularly of what I’m wearing… I can trust you, I’m wearing clothes. A lot of spring sweaters, but that seems to be changing lately as the weather continues to heat up!
11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We have soccer, and then we invited a few of Harrison’s “best buddies” and their parents to come over for pizza and cupcakes after the game to celebrate his birthday. So excited to get to know his friends’ parents better, and for the boys to get to play together!
12. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
We’re taking Harrison to his first Royals game! And his Gigi and Pops got him the perfect birthday gift this year!
Happy Wednesday, friends!
I love all the soccer pics. So sweet. The flowers are so pretty! I don’t have a green thumb. At all 😂 Yay! For the royals game! They’ve been pretty fun to watch so far.
The Royals have been so fun this year! Although I need to learn all of the new young players. I’m still mentally stuck with the players from the World Series team. 😀
This year’s team does have some new names to learn!
Oh, how exciting you get to go to an MLB game. Our Jays are currently playing in Florida because Canada won’t allow all the teams to travel in and out of the country. I can’t wait until we can go to games in person again. Maybe next year???
Oh my gosh I didn’t even realize that?!?! Such a bummer!
I love your ranunculus!! They were in my wedding bouquet, so pretty.
Enjoy your weekend of 3 year old soccer, it is such a fun thing to watch.
Ah! I bet they were so so so pretty in a wedding bouquet. 😍
Oh my cuteness! Your little ones are so cute and adorable. It really is amazing at how time flies by! I also love your idea of writing a letter to your sons. I wish I did that when my son turned one. It’s so priceless! We don’t have any activity for my son yet this summer but soccer sounds fun! He didn’t attend school year because of Covid so need to check with his school and see what’s up!

It’s amazing how having just one activity for an hour of the weekend makes me feel like we’re completely booked and can’t do anything else. 😂
