I remember so vividly writing my last What’s Up Wednesday at the end of March, and just having no clue how this April would unfold with the virus. There was so much uncertainty and anxiety, and while things don’t seem that different in the sense that we’re all still at home, and there’s still this crazy virus out there, somehow living a month plus of this has led me to a bit of acceptance and less fear. I don’t know how you all are hanging in there. I’d love to hear in the comments what’s been going on for you guys this past month!
I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life lately!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
- Sunday: Leftover Italian sausages and brats
- Monday: Pot roast in the slow cooker
- Tuesday: Leftovers
- Wednesday: Cheesy Gnocchi Florentine
- Thursday: Leftovers
- Friday: Take out from a local restaurant!
I’ve blogged about this before, but right now, we’re very blessed that we are both still fully employed, so we’ve been trying to get take out from one of our favorite local restaurants at least once a week to do some small part in helping all of these amazing places that we love stay afloat during this time. It may seem small and petty, but it’s a great treat for us and we’re hoping that it’s some small part in keeping restaurants afloat.
2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
In particular this month, I’m reminiscing about how much I crave and miss going to a garden center in the spring just to look at plants. It’s one of my happy places on Earth, and I’m sorely missing it right now.
I’ve put off planting some of the new areas I wanted to plant this year, and decided they will just have to wait another year until I can go pick out my plants for myself!
But aside from that, I’m so thankful that most garden centers have been amazing with curbside pick up. I’m trying to minimize my interaction with having to actually go into stores these days even though garden centers are deemed essential here, just because of my pregnancy and never knowing how my body would take coming down with COVID-19.
I just missing wandering the rows of beautiful plants and getting to share it with Harrison.
Things that we could have never fathomed a year ago, right?!
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
Springtime weather and baby birds!
We’ve been eating outside in our screened in porch a lot before it starts to get really hot and muggy and all of the bugs come out. I have a feeling with the mild winter we had, that we’re in for a doozy of a bug season this summer.
I’ve also been savoring these lilac bush branches my MIL brought over to me this weekend.
Their fragrance is INCREDIBLE, and I look forward to a vase of these every single year. I haven’t figure out a good spot yet in my own yard to plant a lilac bush, but it’s on the short list of plants I’m dying to have in my own yard!
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Like everyone else, we’ve been staying home! Life these days consists of as much time as possible spent outside: rain or shine now that we’re fully outfitted with rain boots and rain jacket!
Harrison loves to splash around on the patio and mow – no matter what the weather is like outside.
I’m starting to order some of my annual plants from the garden centers around town, and will start planting in the next few weeks.
We’ve been going through bubbles like crazy with Harrison’s request nearly every day to get out the bubble machine.
The grill is going nearly once a week, and Harrison’s daycare class started Zoom once a week story time a couple of weeks ago.
It’s a pretty simple life these days.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
The same thing that I was last month, unfortunately. The unknown of just how long we’ll be doing this with the fear of this virus. Quite frankly, it hit me pretty hard this past weekend that it’s very likely that little baby boy on the way will come and his birth just won’t look like I had hoped it would. Not that anything related to having babies and newborns ever truly goes the way we planned. 🙂 But you get what I mean.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Still working hard on growing a little human. I’m in the last week of my second trimester.
I look half asleep and no make-up on. I guess that’s what quarantine life is about right now!
Aside from just keeping a little boy busy and active, I’m starting to work on my gardens and planting new things. I’ll do a tour soon, once I get everything planted!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
I’m most excited about quarantine ending and the world being a safe place again. :). How many more months am I going to say that?!
But I’m also excited for hopefully a beautiful month of May spent outside with my family enjoying nature and watch Harrison learn and play.
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
And I’m still reading this book…
To Have and To Hold. Still liking it. Will still be reading it for the next few months probably. #slowestreaderalive
However, I set it aside to re-read this book:
Moms On Call was THE BEST and fastest read baby book that I read when Harrison was a newborn. I know there are so many parenting books out there, but this one was simple and practical. And you know I need a refresh of what it’s like to have a newborn around the house because those newborn days are at best fuzzy. 🙂
We’re watching two different shows. We’ve been watching The Outsider on HBO.
And The Last Dance on ESPN about Michael Jordan and the Bulls final championship season.
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Currently, I’m listening to Nathan mowing the yard, as a sit and write on our screened in porch. The birds are singing and happily cleaning out every last seed from my bird feeders.
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Oh good gosh. When I bought what I had envisioned as being my maternity wear for this summer, it did not contemplate running around after a toddler EVERY SINGLE DAY. There were lots of sundresses and maxis purchased to get me through the heat of the summer, and I’ve worn them like once in the past month.
It’s usually gym shorts and one of Nathan’s t-shirts. Or yoga pants. I am trying to dress up in the mornings before I take over full time Harrison duty in the afternoons, but some days, it’s just this all day.
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Probably Mickey Mouse watching, playing outside, and grilling or smoking something delicious.
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
I’m not sure aside from more good weather, planting my garden, and time spent with family. It’s all just one day at a time right now, right?
Hoping that this past month has treated you all well!
I am in the same boat as you – get me inside a garden center ASAP! I cannot wait to stroll the aisles!! Also, slow readers unite – I’ve been working on the same book for MONTHS!
I’m so glad I’m not alone with wanting to get in those garden centers! Are the garden centers open where you live? Ours are open but I just have been distancing myself 🙂
I would say I am accepting of our current reality but it still feels unreal and I get really sad sometimes. I LOVED that I could get pansies from my garden centre and they said they’d have annuals by Mother’s Day. I’d be pretty sad all summer without my flowers 🙁
