What’s Up Wednesday {05.25.22}

Edit: My heart is heavy and shattered given the events in Texas yesterday. The fact that we’re here as a nation weeping again at the loss of innocent little lives in America. That we did nothing as a nation to change the course of the future after Newtown makes me sick to my stomach. That we live in a country that it seems the risk we take with sending our children to school in this country includes a higher risk of being shot and killed in their school than every other developed nation. It’s inexcusable. Exhausting. Heart wrenching. It makes me want to hold my babies close to me and never let them out into this seemingly cruel world.

I’m not tone deaf. And truthfully, I considered just pushing delete on this post. All of it was written before this horrific event. But it’s written. And it’s fun to read. So I’m going to leave it here because these are my memories that I want to be able to go back and read for myself. But where I’m personally at tonight, as I sit here in my pj’s having tucked my precious boys into bed, is a mess. Angry. Pleading with my fellow Americans. Can we please compromise to do something to move in the right direction to fix this. We must be better than this.

My favorite post of the month! A post with a little bit of everything. A little bit of food and recipes, a little bit of books, a little bit of looks at family, and lots more! I can’t believe we’re at the end of May getting ready to gear up for summer.

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

I can not stop. You guys, I love these Chicken gyros, and they are on the menu again this week. AHH. So good!

Some homemade pizza and sundried tomato pasta with creamy burrata rounds out the week. Yum!

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Another fun soccer season for our little man!

We’ve had so much fun watching Harrison play this spring. He truly loves soccer. Every day he comes home and asks to play soccer, so we’ve had so much fun watching him get to do something he really loves with his friends. He may be the most into it four year old soccer player on the team, but we love every minute of getting to watch him!

3. WHAT I’M LOVING:

Evening family walks with the boys.

I watch them together, and think constantly that I don’t want to forget this. Not a single minute of it.

4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

So much gardening! Everything is planted and potted, and now to just watch it all grow and see how it does this summer! Just a sneak peak of one of my early favorites this spring:

I’m going to do a full garden tour very very soon!

We’ve spent the past week getting over Influenza A, eating outside as much as possible, and celebrated a wonderful Mother’s Day.

5. WHAT I’M DREADING:

Remember how last month I was dreading having to mulch everything? You want to know what happens when you procrastinate, and still haven’t mulched by the end of May? You’re still kind of dreading mulching all of the beds. Good thing I love the way it looks when it’s done!

6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

The old bi-annual closet clean out. The kids clothes need to be rotated from winter to summer, things that are outgrown need to be packed away and labeled, and figuring out what I’m still missing for them.

That includes switching out all of our extra sets of clothes at daycare and in my car, and adding sunscreen to my diaper bag. (Let this be your reminder if you need to do the same, so you aren’t at the first very sunny soccer game with your kids and realize that they don’t have a lick of sunscreen on!)

I’m also in the process of re-stocking my pool bag with all of my necessary items for pool time with the kids!

7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

A very basic answer of summer with my kids. Summertime is just magical during childhood, and I love getting to experience that again through the eyes of the boys. I’m excited for walks to get ice cream, popsicles, pool time, and a few summer trips!

8. WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING:

We need a new show! We just finished this season of Summer House, and now we need something new to watch. What are your suggestions??

And I got a good amount of reading done this past week. Check out my monthly book review of everything I read this month!

9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

The dog guard the house currently. Saving me from the evil UPS delivery man likely delivering my daily Amazon package.

10. WHAT I’M WEARING:

You guys! I have THINGS TO SHARE in this section this month! I bought new stuff, and I’m into it.

These joggers are SO SOFT. I’m obsessed.

This cute knit dress and wedges I wore on Mother’s Day!

There are shorts under this skirt, and I’m officially in love. Finally a cute skirt that I can also pick up little boys in and chase them around! Also, this is for sure my next date night outfit. 🙂 From a favorite clothing boutique in KC.

These shorts are so comfy, and currently on sale over Memorial Day. With my new slides.

And this cute dress is so comfy.

11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND: I’m kicking off the weekend with hosting some girlfriends at the house for wine and “book club.” No, we don’t read. We don’t even pick a book….It’s wine club and girlfriend time. And then we don’t have many plans the rest of the weekend. Enjoying the holiday weekend!

12: FAVORITE AMAZON FIND THIS MONTH:

Definitely this dress!

It’s so comfy and casual. Love it.

13. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

A quick trip out of town with the boys, and celebrating all of the awesome dads in my life.

Happy Wednesday, friends!

  1. I know how you feel. Such trivial things in a WUW post compared to the newest tragedy (not to mention the other awful things happening on a regular basis), but here we are. Not sure what else to do. You’ll see on my blog I suggested screaming into the void.
Love your new dresses, skirts, and shorts! I like that your group doesn’t even bother to pick a book, let’s be real about why we’re getting together, eh?! Cheers!

  2. Cute new clothes! I put some sunscreen and a can of bug spray in my car just a few weeks ago so we’re all set.

  3. I love your outfits. The wedges are perfect! I need to get excited to purge my closet. It’s the number 1 thing I’ve been putting off but need to do. Travis did all the mulching the past two weekends…& he’s over it 😂 have fun with books, wine and friends this weekend.
