What’s Up Wednesday {08.25.21}

This might be my favorite post of the month. They’re the most fun to go back and read, it’s a little bit of food, a little bit of my Timehop addiction, reading, watching, all wrapped up in one post.

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

We’re eating MY version of Iowa Girl Eats Cheesy Pasta Florentine, Asian Crockpot Pot Roast (the crockpot is coming back hardcore now that I’m starting to think about fall), and Parmesan Chicken Cutlets with corn on the cob.

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

We’re getting ready for our trip to my parents’ cabin in South Dakota. The last time we were there was 2019, and we looked like this…

Baby Harrison! Ahhhhh. Evie in particular looks so little. Look at all those faces that have NO IDEA that COVID is going to crash the party in just six short months. It’ll be interesting to see what Harrison remembers, if anything, about the cabin this time around.

3. WHAT I’M LOVING:

This stuff is like crack. I open one bag, and don’t stop until it’s pretty much gone. It’s a real problem. So, so, so good. So good that I try to only open a bag every few weeks, because I make it disappear so quickly. 😁

This picture makes me so happy. So much love and joy. And because it reminds me of this picture with Harrison…

It feels like yesterday. They sure do grow up so fast.

4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

We celebrated Jonathan’s very first birthday! I blogged about it HERE.

It can also go down as the first time I ever made a cake. Ever. In my life. (Don’t get carried away, though, it was all from a box.)

We’ve frequented the pool…

Visited with family!

Harrison had his last day of summer school…

And first day of the fall semester…

And most exciting of all, our baby J is really working on his walking!

5. WHAT I’M DREADING:

A very, very, very long car ride with a certain three year old and one year old.

6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

Packing lists and car ride activities for Harrison. Want to see what I have in our line up aside from the good old iPad?

Invisible Ink coloring books || Window Clings || Magnetic puzzle || Wiki Stix || Reusable Stickers

In addition to books and the iPad, I’m taking these invisible ink coloring books for Harrison. Arts & crafts don’t keep Harrison super busy, but it should offer a distraction for a little bit. I hope!

Window clings were a lifesaver for us when we took Harrison on a plane for the first time. He was just over one, and a very active lap child on the plane. I’m hoping they provide a similar enjoyment this time around, although it remains to be seen if he can even reach the window from his car seat.

I saw this cute magnetic puzzle on friend’s site, and thought it would be perfect for the trip. Our little man LOVES puzzles, so I think this is actually going to be a hit with him.

Wiki Stix is recommended by just about every parent of a child ever for traveling. We’ll see what he can come up with! I remember these things from when I was a kid roadtripping to South Dakota!

I also thought this reusable sticker pad would be a lot of entertainment. Harrison loves stickers, and anything to do with trucks and construction vehicles, so I think he’ll be able to entertain himself for a while with these.

7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

I’m really excited for our trips coming up. It’s been a LONG time since we’ve left our home. A really, really, really long time, and it’ll be so good to get away and enjoy new scenery and make some great memories.

8. WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING:

I’m reading one book on my Kindle and listening to another book. On my Kindle, before I go to sleep, I’m reading…

Boys Should Be Boys. If you have an Audible account, guys, this book is FREE. I started reading this book right before Jonathan was born, and never finished it, so I re-started it again recently.

We’ve been watching Ted Lasso on AppleTV.

And my current reality TV line-up includes Below Deck Med, RHOBH, RHOP, RHONY, and Million Dollar Listing NY.

Anybody else struggling with RHONY this season?? Ugh.

Also, anybody else go down the Alabama #rushtok with me? I know I’m not alone here. The OOTD, the sorority chants…you guys, I was in.

And if you’re as interested and fascinated by Greek Life and sororities as I am, this Be There in Five episode is for you.

9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

I’m currently listening to Necessary Lies on Audible. Have you all read it??

10. WHAT I’M WEARING:

Look at those baby legs sticking out down there. These jean shorts from Nordstrom are still in weekly rotation. And this cute shirt I picked up from a local boutique, but I found a similar one HERE. I’m wearing an XS.

This is daycare pick-up chic. This Athleta sweatshirt is on sale right now, and almost every size is available. And, of course, my favorite shoe of all time: All Birds.

This cute top is on serious sale, too, right now. I wore it to lunch with a friend the other week.

This pajama set is so comfortable, and cute, IMO, I snapped a I just rolled out of bed picture for you to share.

11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

We’re making the very long drive to South Dakota to visit my parents.

12. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

Vacations! And decorating for fall. Come Labor Day, I change out all my decor to fall fun.

Happy Wednesday, friends!

  1. Have so much fun on your road trip. Many of our road trip games a little old for your boys, but we also enjoy lots of singing and looking for animals.
I read Necessary Lies, good book!

    1. I’ve been hyping up to our oldest in particular that it’s going to be a VERY LONG time in the car for our roadtrip. Hoping I can at least set the expectation that there’s going to be a whole lot of sitting.
