I don’t talk “beauty” very often on here. I’ve shared a little bit about my curly hair, and what products I use for curls. But beauty…well, I don’t like change often. I’m not keen to try out new products every time I run out of one. I tend to stick to the same products over and over and over again. Most of these are tried and true. A few are new this year. And when I go to look for a new product or to try something different, having a friend recommend something is my favorite way to find something new I’ll love!
Our summers in KC are hot and humid. They are strings of days of chasing around little boys outside at the pool or through the backyard, so most summer days, I keep make-up light and quick, knowing that I’ll look downright glowy thanks to the sweat by mid-day.
I’m currently trying out a new sunscreen – and I’m not ready to declare my love for it yet. I’m trying out Supergoop Glowscreen, after many, many years of being a Clinique CityBlock user.
In the summer, I combine a little bit of Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer in Suede with NARS Illumniator, and use that as my foundation base. It looks like I’m going to have to find something new when my Illuminator is out because they don’t make it anymore!
If I’m spending all day in the sun at the pool, I stop there with any type of foundation. If we’re going out to eat or to a party, I’ll top it off a little of Bare Minerals Original Foundation powder in Medium. I’ve used the Matte version as well, and I like both.
Current favorite blush is NARS in Deep Throat. I have green/cool undertones to my skin. Most “bubbblegum pink” blushes look awful on me, for that reason. I tend to like ones that have a bit more of a coral or rose undertone.
A little bit of bronzer with Tarte Cream Bronzer in Seychelles.
If we’re going out, I’ve been loving this new palette from Charlotte Tilbury for the summer. A quick swipe of eye shadow.
And my favorite eye pencil has been Marc Jacobs gel crayon in Iron for years. I like that it’s so forgiving for a girl who does not have the grace of an artist when it comes to make-up, and it stays on all day.
When MAC stopped making my beloved mascara, I had so many friends recommend L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black. At a fourth of the price of my MAC mascara, and just as good, I’m in LOVE.
And last, my go-to lip color combo the past couple of years, when not wearing a mask, is Charlotte Tilbury’s Coral Kiss (it used to be called Coachella Coral, which I really liked that name. Must have gotten in trouble with copyrights), and a swipe of Bare Minerals lip gloss in Trust.
What’s your must have summer beauty product?
