Once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at this year:
- In January, we looked at our coffee stations.
- February, we looked at our love languages
- In March, we shared our perfect night in
- And in April, we looked at our fridge and pantry staples.
Today we’re sharing our backyard organization. My backyard is my favorite part of our whole house. It’s peaceful and serene, and it’s our very favorite place to be at home, especially this time of year.
When we originally moved into this house seven years ago, the only thing in the backyard was this screened in porch…
As you can see, our screened in porch houses a whole number of things. Mainly, it’s the garage for Harrison’s outside toys. 😆 But it also houses our bird seed in a metal trash can.
The metal part of that trash can is very important because it keeps mice, squirrels…I’m sure there are other animals interested as well…from chewing through the container to get to the bird seed inside. Bird seed situation is looking a little low right now.
The rest of our patio was a labor of love over three years. It was dreamt up and built by my husband, Nathan, on mostly weekends over a period of years.
Last year, Nathan suggested moving our outdoor dining table out to the patio, and while I was hesitant at first, we ended up using it so much more. We eat way more meals outside now.
The storage box in the back of the picture above is really our only storage outside right now. We also have a little shed in the yard, but the boards under it desperately need to be replaced, so that any time I walk into it, I’m afraid it may be the time that I fall right through the bottom. So we keep very little in the shed these days.
The storage box on the patio houses all of Nathan’s smoker pellets and charcoal. It houses numerous soccer balls and goals, chalk, bubbles, gardening gloves and trowels.
This time of year, there’s always numerous plants sitting on the patio waiting to be planted. It’s a process, and one that I enjoy, so I try to break it up so it doesn’t feel like a chore.
Sawyer stopped to pose for me. 😊. I wish I could say she stays out of the flowers, but she uses this area in particular as her launching pad for a giant leap over my plants into the yard. 🙄
So there you have it – our backyard organization / actually this was just an excuse for me to take you on a little backyard tour. 😆
Cute backyard! Love that you moved your table outside to eat. That’s such a fun idea!

Thank you! We use our table so much more outside of the screened in porch now.
Your backyard is so pretty. We had a screened in porch in our previous home, and I miss it. Our sunroom is nice, but I love a screened in porch!
I love the screened in porch particularly on rainy spring days. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine listening to the rain. 😊
This is so lovely, you have a talent for gardening!
