Let’s Look At…My Coffee Station

If you’re new around here, once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at last year:

It’s a new year, and that means a whole new set of prompts and things we’ll “look at” this upcoming year.

Today is a look at our coffee stations. And let me tell you, mine is BORING.

While we’re a coffee drinking house, we’ve never had room and made a little coffee station. It just hangs out with all of our other appliances.

I have grand plans to turn this space where the current swing is…

Into a little kitchen cart/coffee station situation. But you know, there’s a baby in the house still that loves his swing. So, for now, no coffee station.

I know exactly when I started drinking coffee. I had just finished graduate school, and went to visit my sister who was studying in London that summer. Kendra had no love for the food being served at her university’s cafeteria. (Can’t blame her. It was gross.) But all the love for the tiny local coffee shop that had no more than two bar seats at the counter just outside of her tube station. They did not serve food. They served coffee. And during my visit, if I was going to get anything at all for breakfast, I was going to have to get coffee or nothing. So I opted for coffee. And that’s how I became a coffee drinker.

Every morning nowadays, Nathan makes us a pot of coffee. I like to say that one of the many wonderful things I’ve brought Nathan in his life is his respect and enjoyment of coffee. He never drank coffee before we started dating. But like so many foodie things, once he decided he was in, he set about perfecting the water to coffee grounds ratio, and I gladly handed over the coffee making reigns.

We are solid F6 coffee drinkers around here if it’s just plain old brewed coffee. No milk. No creamer. No sugar.

Over the years, there have been two constants in our coffee relationship.

(1) Always use whole beans and grind them yourself

(2) A love affair with Kansas City’s Roasterie coffee. Specifically Miss Betty’s blend.

We love plenty of the Roasterie’s seasonal blends (I’m talking about you, Holiday Blend).

But the other thing I LOVE about this Company, is that so many local restaurants have their own blend made special by the Roasterie. I love that uniqueness and connecting Kansas City’s restaurants with Kansas City’s coffee. Do you all have a company like that in your hometown?

I do love the occasional latte from a coffee shop, though. My go-to order is a latte with 2% milk, extra hot (because that’s necessary with #kids), and one packet of honey. Just the smallest touch of sweetness.

To add a little cheer to your day, I’m loading up my Starbucks card and putting it up on my Instagram stories sometime today. Spread a little caffeinated cheer. Please head over there and enjoy one drink per order on me!

    1. For all my years before Nathan I was solidly in the D3 camp too. Funny how something so simple and basic has changed over the years for me. 😆

  1. I’m not a coffee drinker but my husband is, he too agrees on using whole beans & grinding them yourself. We toured The Roasterie when we visited KC a couple years ago & so enjoyed the company, their process, & their products!!

    1. We’ve never done a roasterie tour. I need to put that on my list to do when we’re out of this COVID mess!
