Let’s Look At…Tidying Up

It’s Let’s Look day with Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything! If you’re new here, it’s one day a month that we share a little peak into some aspect of our lives. So far this year, I’ve shared:

Being a Type A personality, I have a soft spot for things be orderly and tidy. If you want to speak my love language, talk to me about organizing and everything having a place.

The flip side of that coin is that I would be the most bitter, frustrated mom and wife ever if I spent the time needed to tidy everything at the end of the day.

I used to be that super bitter, exhausted, shell of a human being as a brand new mom. I wanted my house to look the way it did before babies. It’s just not possible, though. There will come a day when the boys are off on their own, and my house can be mostly tidy at all times. But I’m doing my best to enjoy living in a house that’s a little messier.

I try to do a small amount of tidying every day. Usually I take 20 minutes after the boys leave for daycare and tidy things that are at a level that I just can’t live with anymore. I get as much done as a possibly can before the clock hits about 8:10, and then I just let the rest go. For the rest of the day. That’s right. I don’t bother to tidy up at all after the morning.

Come along with me as I tidy one morning…

Always left with a sink full of dirty dishes after the boys’ breakfast.

Let’s Look At…The College Years

It’s ”Let’s Look” day, where I share a little peek into a random part of our life. I’m linking up today with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of my life.

Last month, I shared what we ate in a week.

This month, we’re sharing a bit about our high school and college years. I loved this prompt. It took me down a happy rabbit hole of looking at pictures, and thinking about the Lauren of college and how much I’ve changed.

Technically this prompt was let’s look at the high school and college years…but it’s pretty clear looking back at my Amazon Cloud drive that I failed to save very many high school pictures/they’re probably all printed pictures that never got scanned into digital format.

I went to college at a small liberal arts college in Holland, Michigan called Hope College. Undergraduate population of 3,000 students right off of Lake Michigan. It was the most fun four years of my life. I met some of my very closest friends to this day, and I’m forever grateful to the education I received and the genuinely good and kind people I met at Hope.

Today, we’re sharing our holiday meals!

We don’t have a ton of traditions, but many years ago when we would always go to someone else’s house for Thanksgiving dinner, I started making homemade biscuits and gravy on Thanksgiving morning.

We cook up B&G and watch the parade until football comes on…

Let’s Look At…Meal Planning!

I’m back! It was so good to step away for a little bit and get out of KC for a little bit and see my family. I’ll recap South Dakota later on this week, but today is the monthly link-up where we share a little look in to a random part of our lives.

First, let’s look back at everything we’ve shared this year.

Today, we’re sharing how we meal plan!

Every Thursday, I take thirty minutes of my day to plan out our meal plan for the next week. I take a look at our calendars, what activities we have going on during the week and any weekend plans, and figure out the number of meals I need to plan to cook at home.

I use this meal planning pad that has a magnet on the back to plan out our meals. Usually, I end up cooking three nights a week, we do take-out on Fridays generally, and then we have leftovers the rest of the nights.

Let’s Look At…Bathroom Organization

Once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at this year:

Today, we’re sharing…BATHROOM ORGANIZATION. This should be renamed to, look at the disaster in my bathroom drawers.

Disaster. I’ve tried to organizes our bathroom drawers, and it’s just never stuck. So, it’s usually just a mess. A mess on the bathroom counter. A mess in the drawers. So, here’s our mess…

Let’s Look At…Backyard Organization

Once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at this year:

Today we’re sharing our backyard organization. My backyard is my favorite part of our whole house. It’s peaceful and serene, and it’s our very favorite place to be at home, especially this time of year.

When we originally moved into this house seven years ago, the only thing in the backyard was this screened in porch…

Let’s Look At…Our Love Languages

Once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at this year:

Today, we’re looking at love languages. When I hear someone talk about love languages, I immediately think they’re talking about Gary Chapman’s book, The Five Love Languages. Both Nathan and I have read his book, and it clearly speaks to millions of other people, as well. With over 42,000 five star reviews on Amazon 😲, it’s sold millions and millions of copies, been translated into other languages, and is probably the most notable ‘relationship’ book on the market. Even if you haven’t read Dr. Chapman’s book, you’ve probably heard of the five love languages.
