These prompts each month give me the most joy to go back and read. It’s a little peek into everything we’re doing in life right now. A monthly re-cap! And I just have so much fun writing them and reading them.
As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: Sunday football means PIZZA! Other than that, we’re keeping it easy this week with slow-cooker carne asada tacos. (Seriously, they are sooo good!). Going to try a creamy broccoli cheddar soup recipe as well this week!
2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
About a year ago, Jonathan got his helmet to correct a flat spot on the back of his head. The condition is called plagiocephaly, and I remember thinking then, while I felt devastated at the time and really down, that I would look back at those pictures a year from now and realize how fast it seemed, and how quickly they change.
Nathan and I were talking about it just this past week. I was commenting how upset it made me for him to have to wear this helmet, and remembering just how upsetting it was for me. And I thought it was really interesting that he commented that it seemed like practically a non-event now for him. Such a short time that he wondered why we didn’t do it months before for Jonathan. So crazy how we still to this day feel so different about the helmet.
The helmet now resides in Jonathan’s Memory Box. I can imagine years from now when Jonathan moves out and I give him his box, he wonders why I kept it. But it seemed, and still seems, like such a big part of his little life.
3. WHAT I’M LOVING:
Having the kids in daycare again. Haaaaaaaaa.
I truthfully, though, enjoyed a lot of having the boys home. I love that I hear and pick up on words and sounds Jonathan makes to communicate when I’m around him all day, every day. I love getting to watch Harrison’s imagination work. His sneaky little smile. If I didn’t have the stress of work to do on top of having them home, I think quarantine in and of itself would be so much better and enjoyable.
4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
We started the year off with our last of our Christmas celebrations with my family!
And then a Christmas gathering with Nathan’s parents!
And then after a week back to school, we got a call from daycare on Friday morning of that first week telling us we had to come pick up Harrison that his class was closing immediately, and his teacher had tested positive that morning. And that prompted me to take an at-home test, after a week of feeling like I had a very mild cold. That test on Friday afternoon came out…
Positive. And thus began our fourteen day quarantine from daycare, with boy kids. That tested positive later that weekend.
The last two weeks, we’ve been surviving at home.
Truly, friends, family, coworkers were incredible. We survived by way of meals delivered. Balloons and fresh toys. Cookies to bake! Flowers to cheer up, Mama. People gifted us new toys (thanks, Gigi, for the kinetic sand and fossil hunt!), and let us borrow toys like this amazing train set.
We got outside when we could in both beautiful weather…
And the freezing cold…
And we survived. When we had made it through a 10 day quarantine for the boys, we could finally do some activities. And we had so much fun checking out the children’s museum in KC. (And plus side, since I knew we couldn’t get COVID, I could actually enjoy without anxiety having the boys around all these kids!). The boys ADORED it. Can’t wait to go back!
And we celebrated someone’s 37th birthday, COVID style, yet again.
5. WHAT I’M DREADING:
Living the next six months without a working dishwasher. Nathan and I have a big decision to make on what we want to do with our house: renovate, sell?! We don’t know. So when the top rack of the dishwasher broke this past weekend, Nathan didn’t want to spend any money on it to fix it…so now we live with just the bottom rack for…I have no idea. Help give me patience!!
6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Catching up from everything that was put off the last two weeks. I’m behind on everything. Emails, budgets, getting records sent over for the kids to their dr’s, SO MANY THINGS. Just went on hold for two weeks, and now I need to get them all done ASAP.
7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
I’m most excited to be able to live the next few months without having to worry about this stinking virus anymore. It’s the biggest blessing of all after almost three years of the anxiety and worry, that I feel like I can actually live like I used to pre-COVID for a little bit.
8. WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING:
You all know that Nathan and I are all in on…
SUMMER HOUSE! Ooooh we love Summer House.
We’re also into…
1883! Who else is a Yellowstone fan and is watching this ‘origin story?’ It’s pretty good. Nathan is 1,000% committed. I told Nathan I’m not as committed. To me, it’s missing the relationship piece of the story that I love so much about Yellowstone, but it’s growing on me. The first few episodes, I was like…Luke warm. Give it time!
I’m currently reading by way of Audible…
Going There by Katie Couric. It’s a long one, but really liking it so far!
9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Please see above. 😊
10. WHAT I’M WEARING:
Yoga pants and workout tanks with sweatshirts. Pure survival mode.
11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
No plans right now!
12. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
A few special birthdays. My mom’s birthday, the boys’ Mimi is early in the month. And then Nathan’s birthday is later on in the month, which we have a really fun little something planned for that with friends!
But truly, I’m most excited that we’re going to Denver to visit Nathan’s parents for a few days, and Harrison and Nathan are going skiing! I’m so excited for them, and I’m all sorts of looking forward to hearing the stories from Nathan about what Harrison thinks, how he does. It’s one of the very first “firsts” that I’ll truly miss out on, but I just know that he’s going to really love it.
Happy Wednesday, friends!
That does sound exciting! I remember the first time my husband took our oldest skiing; they had a great time. I don’t ski at all after breaking a leg in middle school and reminded my husband a million times before they left that I NEEDED photos! Glad you are all better and life is returning to normal for you.
Yes!! All the photos and videos. I’ve already started reminding him. 😀
Oh, I’m so sorry you had to experience Covid. Ugh. However, being worry free for the next few months does sound pretty good! My husband had to celebrate his birthday in a very lowkey (almost non-existent way) thanks to Covid too so he’s really looking forward to a bigger celebration later.
Ahhh. When will Covid stop ruining life celebrations?? Hope he can have a fun celebration soon!
Can’t wait for the day when we can all be free from the worry of Covid. It’s good to hear that you recovered well and can now hopefully enjoy more outings without the fear of catching it.
It’s definitely the upside to all four of us having it at the same time. I can check ‘have Covid’ off my list. 😅
I wondered about the Yellowstone spinoff, I’m sure we will give it a try. I’ve heard they are going to do another spinoff about the 6666 ranch, which could be good if Jimmy is the lead.
Glad everything is getting back to normal for you.
Oh man – I hadn’t heard about a 6666 ranch spinoff. I’m sure we’d watch it, though!
I’m so glad you all are better and out of quarantine! Skiing will be so fun!
Ahhh. Me too! This week is moving so much faster than the dredging through of the weeks of quarantine. 😂
I bet 😅
