What’s Up Wednesday {11.30.22}

The holidays always seem to fly by, and this time feels no different. Even though it’s been a month since my last What’s Up Wednesday post, it feels so much shorter than that. I’m looking forward to so many things this month with the kids, especially! It’s such a magical time with little ones!

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: I struggle figuring out what to make for the family the week after a holiday. It feels like so much effort goes into planning out the holiday meals, and then the next week I have no motivation to do anything…so we are doing spaghetti and meatballs, all of which I made double of the last time and froze half of them for just such an occasion. Crockpot carne asada tacos, and lemon butter chicken piccata.

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Our Thanksgiving was such a comedy of errors….Nathan was still pretty sick, but insistent on cooking the turkey. Needless to say, he made countless mistakes in his cooking, including cooking the entire bird upside down.

At the end of the day, I was the only one who ate Thanksgiving dinner. The boys each had a roll, and Nathan pushed food around his plate. One that we will never forget, for sure!

3. WHAT I’M LOVING: Taylor Swift’s new album Midnights. It’s on repeat over and over and over again here. I haven’t even started listening to Christmas music because I love the new Taylor so much.

And fires in the fireplace at home! There’s nothing more cozy than snuggling up with my boys under a blanket by the fire.

4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO: We took the boys to Manhattan for their first K-State game this month. They had so much fun! Baby J included! Nathan is a K-State alum, and I consider it my adopted school. Hope College didn’t have much in the way of big football games and tailgates.

We finished up our Thankful Turkeys on Thanksgiving. I loved doing this with them. They found so much joy getting to fill out a feather each day. I loved to hear their thoughts. It had me reflecting each morning on the many things that I’m thankful for too.

We were supposed to host my parents for Thanksgiving, but all of the sickness at our house meant that it was just the four of us. It had me remembering how thankful I am that I moved back to Kansas City to be close to my family, that this wasn’t my one opportunity to see them in a year.

5. WHAT I’M DREADING: Sick season. Especially since I’ve gotten a preview of what having a two year old at home and trying to work looks like these days. Help.

6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON: So many things for the holidays! Lots of Christmas shopping, scouring online deals. I’ve got on my list that I need to order our Christmas cards. This time of year just always seems like it’s running on overdrive, and I’m mentally making some cuts on things we normally do because I’m feeling overburdened already.

7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

I’m excited to do the advent calendar with the boys. I hope it brings them as much joy this season as it brought me putting it together just thinking about what will shape their holiday memories.

And then this Friday is our 20 week ultrasound of baby Lane! I can’t even believe it…Very excited to check on in the little one and see what they look like!

8. WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING: Yesterday, I posted my November book review!

And as for watching, we’re still deeply entrenched in Winter House, although with the sickness we’ve gotten a bit behind. Time to binge a little trashy TV!

9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: I’m listening to the whir of the washing machine trying to get through two weeks worth of sick people’s dirty clothes!

10. WHAT I’M WEARING: Whatever fits! Namely work-out clothes. But occasionally, there’s reason for a dress or sweater…

11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND: We have a big weekend! We’re decorating Christmas cookies with some friends, and then we’re visiting Santa too!

12: FAVORITE AMAZON FIND THIS MONTH:

I haven’t done much Amazon shopping this month. But I did order another silk pillowcase to replace the one that I accidently sent through the dryer….

13. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH: So many holiday things with the boys!

Happy Wednesday, friends!

  1. I struggle with meal planning this time of the year too. I’m sorry your Thanksgiving was not what you all had planned. An upside down bird? Lol. I hope you have the best holiday season with your boys!

  2. So… one of my boys still only ate the rolls and white meat turkey (dunked in ketchup!) LOL. We nearly ate by ourselves this year too as we spent the whole beginning of November spreading sickness from one kid to the next. Thankfully by Thanksgiving morning everyone was healthy and our families decided to brave it and join us *knocks wood* and so far none of them have gotten sick.

  3. The angle of your advent house made it look huge (to me) and I thought that can’t possibly be at their house! But I looked again and saw it is more appropriately sized. Enjoy the goodies! We have one where I tuck the treats inside too. You’re looking great 🙂

  4. Hopefully you got all the sickness out of the way so that everyone is healthy for Christmas and New Years!

I have to know what the kids said about the NO feather on the turkey. lol

    1. I said to our 2 year old, “Jonathan, what are you thankful for today? What do you love?”
And he replied, “NO!” So that’s what we went with that day….
