What’s Up Wednesday {07.31.19}

You all. It’s my first What’s Up Wednesday! I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in the Lane’s life.

I’m so excited! This is part of the reason I wanted to start this blog – to have a way to capture and hold on to memories of Harrison growing up, and a way to look back years from now and remember what our lives were like when we had a one year old. Ok – so here we go:

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

Nathan’s traveling most of this week, and I’m bringing a meal to a friend that just had their second baby last week, so I’m keeping cooking REALLY easy.

  • Saturday: Burgers with roasted sweet potatoes and salad
  • Sunday: Leftovers!
  • Monday: …….wing it?
  • Tuesday: Chicken fajitas and Mexican rice
  • Wednesday: Leftovers
  • Thursday: Spinach and cheese ravioli in marinara sauce
  • Friday: Dinner out

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Nathan and I are still talking about how much fun we had on our trip to Boston over the 4th of July. It was the perfect first family vacation – if you missed it, you can check out my recap. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

3: WHAT I’M LOVING:

I have been LIVING in these shoes ALL SUMMER. And let me tell you, they are freaking amazing. I tell every single friend, co-worker, family member, even our pediatrician (no joke! She now owns a pair), that they are the best shoe I have ever owned.

I wore them walking all over Boston.

On more walks and park dates than I can count.

You can wash them IN THE WASHING MACHINE and they come out perfectly clean. They breathe well, they feel like you’re walking on a cloud. They are simply amazing. My color is currently out of stock, but they have them a ton of different colors.

I’ve also been having a love (and partially hate…because I hate cleaning the thing) relationship with our DynaTrap. Every other year before this year, I’d go outside in our backyard and literally get eaten by mosquitos. And this thing has done an awesome job of keeping our mosquito population down this year. I’ve only been bit a handful of times, which is a HUGE win when in previous year, I was getting bit several times anytime I walked outside.

4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

We’ve been summering hard over here. I love the ease of summer – the time outside, the pool, cooking out, and it being light later in the evening, so we have been taking full advantage of all things summer. Not to mention the beautiful things blooming all around. If you missed my garden bloom update on Friday, take a peek back. The garden is particularly spectacular this year.

We’ve hit the splash pad…

And more parks than I can count. Taken countless walks with Sawyer…And my personal favorite, splashed and cooked out with our Cousin Evie and my sister, Kendra, and husband, Spence, almost every Saturday this summer, which Nathan dubbed “Splashin’ & Smokin’ Saturdays.” πŸ™‚

Watching these two start to play together, and love each other this summer has been the greatest joy of all. Saturdays with these cuties are my whole world.

Harrison’s language has really come along this summer. He talks in sentences all the time…they just aren’t English yet. πŸ™‚ But his ability to name someone, and adding words out of nowhere throughout the summer has been so much fun watching him grow!

5: WHAT I’M DREADING:

Nathan’s traveling a lot the next month for work – so I’m dreading doing the single parent, work full time gig. I’m thankful that I have a ton of support to lean on while he’s gone, but things are just easier when he’s around in the mornings and evenings. The strength of single parents – truly amazing!

6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

This blog! I didn’t start blogging very long ago, and I’m still trying to work out how I want things set up, how to upload pictures…the whole bit. πŸ™‚ Let me know what you love and what you could do without!

7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

Truthfully, a little bit of rain this week. It’s nice to get a little bit of Mother Nature’s help every once in awhile to keep the gardens looking pretty. She does a much better job than me.

8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:

You all are going to find out sooner rather than later that I’m the slowest reader ever. I can read a book for 6+ months. Slow and steady – a couple pages a night. I’ve always wished I was a faster reader, but I just tend to find myself watching TV rather than reading when I have free time…so I’m working on reading this book:

Don’t be surprised if in a month, I’m still reading it…but I’ve loved it so far!

Aside from my normal reality shows, I’ve started binging these guys:

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy

The new Queer Eye season on Netflix! This show just makes me happy.

9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

I’ve been doing a lot of listening to Mother Goose Club on Spotify. Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, and If you’re Happy and You Know It. Big kid stuff – Taylor Swift’s new songs have been playing on repeat.

I’ve gotten back into this podcast lately:

How I built this with Guy Raz

10: WHAT I’M WEARING:

Aside from my AllBirds that I talked about above, I’ve been living the weekends in…

Athletic wear. Favorite work-out shorts here, Underarmour tank (old), favorite sports bra here.

And the weekdays in…

This cute linen top – I’m wearing a small. And plus – it’s on sale!

I’m in love with this simple tie front t-shirt. I’m wearing an XS. They’re out of my color, but they have it in navy, yellow floral, and leopard – and it’s also on sale!

And of course, I’ve been spending a ton of time in bathing suits this summer considering Harrison’s love of wa-wa.

Top here, Bottoms here – I’m wearing an XS in each.

11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

In addition to some pool time with Cousin Evie, we have a baby shower for two of our dear friends on Saturday afternoon. We are so excited to be adding another little one to our group of friends! We are just starting to enter that stage of life where our friends are starting to have babies, and it is SO MUCH FUN! And crazy! But mostly fun!

12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

An adventure by the sea πŸ™‚

13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:

Whew – I think that’s it!

Don’t forget to link up, so I can read what’s new with you!

  1. Hey Lauren! Welcome to the blogging world! Your blog is adorable!!! Great job! I started my blog this past year too and I LOVE it! It has been such a fun adventure. I think I’m going to need to invest in those shoes. I love my sketchers that are similar to that. Slip on and go is my kinda shoe!
