Dear Jonathan (v. IX)

Happy nine months, little guy! This past month you spent two weeks at home with daddy and me after a covid scare in your class, you finally mastered getting water out of your sippy, and you are so proud of yourself, and you’re army crawling and exploring all the things. Especially Sawyer’s food and water dishes. 😬

Every night, I put you to bed, and you fall asleep in my arms. I rock you and just stare at you, hoping to hold on to the way your face looks so peaceful. The weight of your body at nine months. The little curl tuft of hair on top of your head.

You are so loved. I hope you never doubt it. Not even for a second. I let minutes tick by hoping that each minute bores into you a deep sense that you will always be safe and loved in your mama’s arms.

I love you sweet boy,

Mommy

What’s Up Wednesday {04.28.21}

These are some of my favorite posts to read on others’ blogs. A little peak into a whole variety of things going on in Lane Life Lately. Today, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

I’m making two meals this week: Mix and Match Mama’s Sausage Vodka Pasta + Cafe Delite’s Balsamic Baked Chicken Breast with Mozzarella Cheese

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Where the time goes, honestly. You all know I’m a Timehop addict. Timehop is an app that shows you pictures from that day in years past. And right now, I’m in a whole land of newborn Harrison-ness from three years ago. And I’m just baffled about how it happened that the little kid that stands in front of me now is the same helpless little baby just three years ago.

My Favorite and Most Used Apps

I’m guilty, like so many of us, of spending far too much time on my phone. When you think back, though, over what a phone was used for ten years ago to now, it’s remarkable how indispensable these little computers in our purse have become. Today I’m sharing what my favorite and most used apps are on my phone, which means we’ll have to start with the biggest chunk of my time going to…

The ‘gram. Instagram by far and away is the most used app on my phone. I love watching people’s stories, looking at the beautiful pictures they post and often times inspiring captions. I’ve connected with people I would have never met before through the ‘gram, and reconnected with people I went to school with so many years ago. I think it’s truly a remarkable community, when used responsibly and for good.

Friday Favorites {04.23.21}

Happy Friday, friends! I am two weeks post second vaccination this week, which has me so very thankful! And ready to do all the things. Is it strange, though, I still feel super cautious about doing some of the things we used to do regularly before this pandemic? I can’t wait to go out to a restaurant with Nathan, but a little part of me is still saying, “Yeah, but is that smart? Are you sure you want to do that?” Amazing how we can re-train our brain. May be time to start re-training it to be more normal. 😊.

I’ve got a whole lot of family favorites this week. Enjoy and happy weekend!

I know Easter was forever ago, but I haven’t had an opportunity to share any pictures yet from our Easter celebrations. We got the chance to see my family for Easter this year, and I had so much fun watching Harrison and cousin Evie Easter egg hunt at my parents!

Learning to Live with Food Allergies

I’ve shared a lot about Jonathan’s journey over the past couple of months with plagiocephaly and torticollis. I haven’t mentioned much about Harrison’s food allergies lately, and I’ve never really shared how we identified his food allergies.

Harrison has several different food allergies. We’ve identified that he is allergic to eggs and sesame. Nathan has very mild food allergies, but it wasn’t until our niece was diagnosed with a severe gluten allergy a year before Harrison was born that we had food allergies first come to roost for our family. Because of what we saw first hand with Evie, we were on the look out for food allergies with Harrison when we started to introduce solid foods to him. I nervously gave him gluten for the first time, and waited nervously to see if he would react. I was on high alert, too, as he first tried peanuts. I wasn’t really well versed on the common allergens, though, aside from gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and dairy.

Spring House Tour 2021

It’s HOME TOUR day! It seems like every season I declare on my blog that it’s my favorite home decor of all for that particular season. There’s something about the fresh re-set of home decorations for the season that lightens the heart and makes me fall more in love with that season. Over the past year, I’ve shared our house decorated for Christmas

7 Quick Harrison Takes (v. VII)

If you’re new around here, every once in awhile I like to round up seven quick things that are making me laugh or melting my heart about Harrison. Given this is Harrison’s birthday week, I thought we’d do a little peak into what early three year old life looks like lately.

I love going back to read these because it’s an easy way that I can memorialize these small little bits of his personality as he grows. Just the other day, I said “Thumbs up, Harrison!” And instead of putting up his index fingers like he had for months, he stuck his little thumbs right in the air. The end of an era, and it made me tear up just a bit.

-1- Lately, Harrison’s been replying affirmatively that he knows what things mean, and then immediately follows it up with an “I don’t know what that means.” So, we could say, “Harrison, do you know what the Easter bunny brings?” “Yeah.” “What does he bring?” “I don’t know!”

-2- Grabbing his brother or dad, and exclaiming, “Take a picture, Mom!” Or “Take a picture, Dad!”

-3- It’s a common one, but the way he pronounces “yellow” as “lellow.”

-4- When Jonathan starts crying, Harrison replies, “It’s ok baby Jonathan.” And immediately goes to get Jonathan’s lovie for him.

-5- “I like Francesco and Lightning McQueen.”

-6- I’m not sure where it started, but he exclaims, “What the heck in bob???” Who’s Bob? I have no idea.

-7- Everytime we go over a bump in the car, he asks, “Mom, you need a new car?”

Let’s Look…Our Fridge + Pantry Staples

Once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at this year:

Today we’re sharing a look into our pantry and fridge. I’m going to share a little about what I find I put in our cart every week to get us through the week. We have the very simple basics of bread and milk. I have thing for Dave’s Killer Bread White Bread Done Right, though. I’m not sure if it’s weird to have a favorite bread, but I will literally go to a different grocery store to procure this bread if Whole Foods is out. 😆

Dear Harrison (v. VI),

It was Friday the 13th. The weather was overcast and cool for a spring day. I woke your daddy up in the middle of the night after wondering by myself for several hours if this was the real thing.

I was so unsure. So insecure. Afraid that I wouldn’t be a good enough mama to you. Afraid I would fall short for you. And yet the time had come for me to meet you. This strong, sweet little boy that would change my entire course of life.

In your short three years you have already given me the whole world.

When I’ve been sad, you’ve climbed into my lap and hugged me saying, “it’s ok, mama. Deep breaths.”

When I’ve laughed so hard at you, you’ve flashed me a smile with some side eye, knowing you’ve brought joy.

When I’ve just been in a funk, you’ve said, “mama, you’re my best friend.”

You are wise beyond your years. Your heart is deeper and more beautiful than I could have ever dreamt.

You are such a precious gift to this world. And I’m thankful for the front row seat to it all. Happy birthday, my beautiful boy.

Love,

Mommy

Living a Healthy Lifestyle

Everyone knows that living a healthy lifestyle is important. Improves your physical health, as well as your mental health. How a healthy lifestyle looks is different for everybody. I’m going to share a little bit about what that means for me.

I’ve shared before that way way way back in the early days of Lauren, I was a dancer.

Dancing kept me really active all through high school. Everyday, I’d get done with school and head to my dance studio for at least a couple of hours every single night. Weekends, I was there even more time participating in their entertaining groups and youth ballet company. Needless to say, “working out” and being “healthy” were never difficult because I was so active with my dance classes.
