Friday Favorites {12.04.20}

Remember back in March when the world shut down, we all thought for sure we’d be through this pandemic in a few a weeks? Maybe a month. And all of the germ experts were like….you all have no idea. Buckle up. This thing is likely coming back for a second wave in the fall and winter. And that seemed so impossible and so far away?? And here we are in December. Still in a pandemic. CRAZY. We’ve been through almost an entire year living in a pandemic. It seems like the end is in sight, though. There’s hope that we don’t have another year of this, at least. And I am READY to be able to see my family again.

I’ve got a whole host of FAMILY stuff today. What’s this blog without Jonathan and Harrison pictures? A little bit of style and one of my FAVORITE sales of the year. And just some randomness. Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

Watching these little guys together over the holiday weekend was the best. Four days of Harrison giving hugs to his brother, trying to make him laugh, and fetching his lovie for him when he cried. I love being their mom.

Lanes Lately – December 2020

Thought I’d share a little bit of what’s going on around our house lately (aka pictures that I didn’t post on Instagram.)

MAKING: We’re in chili mode over here. Once the temperature drops to 50 degrees or below, it seems to be on repeat at least every other week.

Chili and then the once a year Biscuits & Gravy made their return this Thanksgiving. I make homemade biscuits & gravy for Thanksgiving, and holy smokes. Every year, I wonder why I don’t make them more. Here is the BISCUIT recipe, and here is the GRAVY recipe.

Dear Jonathan (v. IV)

Another month of smiles, laughing, and coos. This month you’ve started interacting with us. You search for me when you hear me call your name. You watch and kick In excitement when Harrison plays with you. You’re happiest being held. Assured of your people being there. Loving you.

Little boy. Being your mommy is the best job of all.  Watching you learn to love on your family is pure joy. I love you, baby J. So big.

Love,

Mommy

Giving Thanks for My Grandpa Bush

{{My Grandpa Bush was promoted to glory last Saturday morning. I process feelings by writing, and in particular writing letters. Below is a letter I wrote to my Grandpa this week.}}

Dear Grandpa,

I just polished off a chocolate chip cookie. It made me smile and think of you. You never turned down a sweet, and always so willingly took our Halloween cast-off candy each year.

Naming Jonathan Brooks

Some time back, I wrote about the meaning behind Harrison, our first little boy’s name. You can read that post HERE. Today, I thought I’d share the meaning behind Jonathan’s name.

Nathan and I struggle with agreeing on boys names. Girls names – no problem. We have loads of girl names we both like. In fact, if we were to ever have a girl, which doesn’t seem likely now, we already have a name for her. But instead, God has blessed us with little boys. Cute, adorable little boys that we STRUGGLE to find common ground naming them.

About a month before Jonathan was born, we got serious about figuring out a name. After all, he could have come at any minute, and I didn’t want to be trying to name him in the hospital! We eventually settled on Jonathan Brooks.

How to Arrange a Thanksgiving Flower Bouquet

I get asked a lot about how to arrange a vase of flowers. I usually reply that you just have to mess around with it until it looks right, which is true! But I thought it was probably time to share a more in depth “recipe” to the perfect bouquet of flowers and flower arranging.

First, use a large vase and put a packet of flower food into the water. Most bouquets come with a flower food packet. If you don’t see one, grab one from the flower section in the grocery store. They’re free! I always grab one or two extras to have in my junk drawer at home for when I’m cutting my own flowers from the garden.

Friday Favorites {11.13.20}

I’ve got a soft place in my heart for Friday the 13th. Little Harrison Lane graced us with his presence in this world on a Friday the 13th. It was the one day that I didn’t want him to come, but now they seem kind of special to me. I hope you all had a good week, and are headed into a fun weekend ahead. Only a couple more weeks until Thanksgiving, which seems just impossible!

I have to give credence to this huge historic moment that’s definitely a favorite this week.

Let’s Look At…Our Holiday Menu

Once a month, I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Sometimes it’s fashion related, sometimes home, sometimes how we do holidays. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at so far this year:

Today we’re sharing our holiday menus.

7 Quick Harrison Takes (v. V)

If you’re new around here, every once in awhile I like to round up seven quick things that are making me laugh or melting my heart about Harrison. I imagine someday I’m going to have to start doing seven quick takes for Jonathan, but for now, he’s all sweetness, coos, and baby talk.

I love these posts and going back to read them because it’s an easy way that I can memorialize these small little bits of his personality as he grows.

-1- When Harrison greets us in the morning, including his baby brother, he says, “Nice to meet you, Jonathan!” Makes me die laughing every time. Nice to meet you too, Harrison. I’ve known you your whole life, but it’s a pleasure to meet you again this morning.

Friday Favorites {11.06.20}

This week has been fall perfection. The leaves are at the top of their game, and the weather has been pleasant enough to be outside all. the. time. Jonathan and I have spent all the time going on walks, cleaning up gardens, and just sitting outside this week. Next week turns cold here.

All the fall this week! My absolute favorite! When I found out I was pregnant, I was really excited to be on maternity leave during the fall to get to enjoy beautiful leaves and cool walks, and this week DELIVERED. Now to mentally prepare myself for the big dip into cold temperatures this upcoming week.
