Friday Favorites {08.26.22}

Happy Friday, everyone! It’s a big day and weekend for us! We’re officially setting off on our first flying family vacation with just the four of us. I’ve got so many bags to pack, and lists to check off before we head out the door. But I gathered up a few of my favorites from this week for you!

Please ignore my greasy hair that needed to be washed in all of these pictures….but I just couldn’t wait to share with you the Nani swimsuits I bought to try out for our beach trip! I personally discovered this brand a year ago, and bought one suit from them. It’s my absolute favorite suit. And this is the only picture I have of it…my sister is really going to appreciate being in the background of this picture yawning…

The one above is on major sale right now. Like half the cost of when I bought it. Top is linked here, and bottom here. I wear an XS in both top and bottom.

So I bought a bunch of colors and a few tops, and tried them out.

Saw my sister wearing this top originally, and after seeing it all summer, I had to have it. And these bottoms in color Zuri are both cute and comfortable.

What’s Up Wednesday (early!) {08.24.22}

This is my favorite post every month. I love sharing and reading about just the everyday things that people are into currently! We’re going to be gone next week on vacation, so I’m sharing my WUW with you early! I just couldn’t miss it.

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: This week we’re doing homemade pizzas, cheesy sausage pasta florentine, and lemon butter chicken piccata!

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Reminiscing and enjoying the pictures and videos from Jonathan and Holden’s second birthday party! We all had so much fun celebrating our little COVID babies!

What’s Up Wednesday {07.27.22}

This is always my favorite post of the month. They’re the most fun to go back and read, it’s a little bit of food, a little bit of my Timehop addiction, reading, watching, all wrapped up in one post.

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: I’m trying a new Half Baked Harvest recipe for my resident shrimp lover in the house (Mr. Harrison): Garden Herb Shrimp Scampi. We’re going to attempt to brave the heat this week and grill some burgers and hot dogs, and taco stuffed sweet potatoes, which I’ve never done before either! We’re rounding out the week with a couple of fun sweet treats for the boys to help me make: watermelon popsicles and blueberry cobbler, so I can use up some of the blueberries we picked and froze last month!

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT: It snuck up on me, but my littlest boy is turning 2 this weekend! This past year seemed to fly by, and it’s amazing going back and watching videos of our Jonathan at this time last year. I think we always think about so much changing the first year of life, but my goodness! They change so much in year 1 to 2! Walking, talking, becoming so strong-willed and independent. Love my little guy so stinking much, and watching the boy that he is becoming now!

Friday Favorites {07.01.22}

Oh my goodness, this week was busy! Harrison went to a soccer camp, and work seemed to be super busy, but we made it! I hope you had a good week, too! We’ve had a lot of wonderful things going on the past few weeks, and I’m going to share some of my favorites today!

Harrison spent a week at my parents’ cabin with his cousin, Everly. You guys, they had THE BEST time. I have to admit, I was a little nervous going into it. It was his first time away from us for so long, and he’s four years old and his cousin is five, and man, they can be a HANDFUL sometimes. But it sounds like Mimi and Papa more than survived. They thrived! And the kids have so many awesome memories running around the cabin and playing in the forest.

Friday Favorites {06.10.22}

Happy Friday, friends! It’s been a busy week around here. I was traveling for work for a few days, which always seems to make the week fly by. I hope you have something fun planned for the weekend!

Can I be really honest with you for a sec? 2020/COVID really kind of burned me out to my very core.

I loved doing special adventuring with, back then, just Harrison and me. It filled me up. I used to be on a flexible work arrangement that allowed me to do something special with Harrison every Friday.

But COVID quarantine, working full time with him home, then having both boys be home, honestly just knocked me on my booty. And in the past year, more often than not, even when I’ve had the option of being able to have the boys at home because I had PTO to use or a holiday, I opted to send them to daycare because I truly have felt like I’m still recovering from the depletion that was 2020.

Harrison’s Fourth CARS Birthday!

After no big birthday parties for two years, we were SO READY to celebrate our little man’s fourth birthday with a BIG party!

Nathan and I narrowed it down to two theme possibilities: cars or soccer. Those are Harrison’s most favorite things these days. Given that he spends each Saturday playing soccer, we decided to go with CARS!

We invited the cousins, our neighbors, and a few of Harrison’s friends and their families over to play in our backyard for the afternoon. And they had the best time!

Friday Favorites {04.29.22}

Well just when I think we may be out of the sickness woods of the winter of 2022, I’m proven wrong again. We have one kid home sick with the flu, and the whole family is on tamiflu. Ah! When will the sickness this year end?!

We’ll be focused on getting our little guy better and hopefully having some fun along the way this weekend. Hope you guys have a great weekend!

In the middle of last week, I surprised Harrison at school before lunch, and we played hooky for the rest of the day going to a Royals baseball game together. Since Jonathan was born, the amount of time I’ve gotten to spend one-on-one with Harrison has gone down significantly. I love having both of the boys, and doing things with them, but it’s so interesting how the dynamics change when you get to focus on just one kid at a time.

Many years ago, like pre-kids, I read a fellow blogger doing a skip day with each of their kids, and I’ve held on to that idea for YEARS thinking I wanted to do the same thing when the time came around. It was the best time to just focus on my big, little man for an afternoon.

7 Quick Harrison Takes (v. XI)

If you’re new here, you’re probably wondering what “quick takes” are exactly. So, let me explain. I like to jot down things that are making me laugh or smile about each boy every once in awhile and commemorate them in a blog post. Truthfully, I adore these posts for very selfish reasons (and I think our extended family probably agrees). They are little windows into the personalities of each boy, and going back to read them from years past just brings me endless joy.

It’s so easy in the slog of day in and day out of parenting littles to forget the little things they say constantly, the games they are into for the moment because you’re so tired of playing the same thing over and over, and then, one day, you realize they haven’t said that phrase they said a million times a day anymore and you can’t remember the last time they said it. Ok, let’s get to what Harrison has been like lately…

-1- At the cabin this past summer, and over the past few months, he’s been learning how to play the card game “Go Fish.” While he doesn’t recognize all of the numbers yet, he loves to tell his opponent to “Goldfish!” And I’m just not correcting that, because I laugh every time he says it.

-2- If you want to know what you sound like to other people, have a kid. They will start to mimic your style and way of speaking that has you thinking, “that sounds oddly familiar.” Harrison follows up nearly every affirmative statement with, “Right? Right Mommy? Right Daddy?” As in, “We don’t play with Mommy’s iPad, RIIIIIGHT?”

-3- He tells me every couple of hours, “Mommy, you look beautiful.” (In background, Mom is in four day old unwashed hair, leggings, and a baggy sweatshirt that has snot smeared on it.) God love him.

-4- Now whenever he scores in soccer or football with us, he wants to “do the replay.” By essentially re-enacting the exact way that he just scored so he can re-live his glory.

-5- At nighttime lately when I’m tucking him in, he’s wanted to play a game where I ask him if he likes each NFL team. I’ll say, “Do you like the Bengals?” “No!” “The Patriots?” “No!” Then when the game is over, he wants to ask me the questions. And he refers to the Carolina Panthers as “the Pantries.” For the record, I do not like the Pantries.

-6- If there is a package to open, he will run it to his craft table and use his scissors to cut if open faster than you can tell him no. No package is safe from the power he now has with his scissors!

-7- I shared it on my Instagram stories awhile back, but he now lines up his cars in a row…a VERY long row, because there are so many cars in this house…and when I asked him the first time what they were doing, he replied, “It’s the Chick-fil-a line.” He’s not wrong.

And one bonus because it’s still Harrison birthday month…

-8- He calls short sleeved shirts “hot sleeves.” He always wants to wear hot sleeves.

A Day in the Life: Weekend Edition!

Are you as interested in Day in the Life posts as I am? There’s something about getting a peak into someone’s everyday life that satisfies the same piece of me that adores reality TV. (Yes….I know reality TV isn’t actually real. But I love it all the same.) So how about I take you along for a typical spring Saturday with the Lanes?

Dear Harrison, {v. VII}

My sweet boy. Happy fourth birthday, little man. Four years have gone by faster than I could have imagined. While the sharpness of the memories of your birthday have softened, I remember snapshots in time of those first few days. Pictures etched in my memory of your daddy holding you for the first time, the weight and seemingly perfect way you fit on my chest, moments alone with just you and me, figuring out this new world together.

It doesn’t feel possible that it’s only been four years with you in our lives. You bring so much laughter and joy to the world, and it’s hard to imagine that the world existed before knowing that joy.

Watching you grow, expand your mind and your heart is pure delight. You are so tough but with the kindest of hearts. I see this amazing little man in you. In the way that you watch out for your brother and friends. In the deepness of the hugs that you wrap us in each morning. In your cleverness and curiosity. The way your eyes sparkle with delight day in and day out.

I am the blessed one, Harrison. Blessed to know your sweet tenderness and your resilience. To know your heart.  I can’t believe it’s already been four years. It’s an honor to watch you grow, little one. Like I always ask you, ”How much does Mommy love you?” ”So much.” Happiest of birthdays, my little boy.

Love,

Mommy
