New Make-Up Favorites for Spring & Summer

I’m not one for much change. My make-up favorites have been my favorites for years. After, in some cases, eight years of the same product, three pregnancies, hormone changes, and just aging skin, I started to wonder if there would be other products that I liked even more than my standby favorites. A good refresh is needed every now and again…

Here are some of the products I’ve found and am loving lately…

I bought two new foundations to try, and I equally loved both for different reasons.

The IT Cosmetics CC Cream is…as you’d guess…creamy. I can see myself using it a lot in the summer when I want some coverage, but don’t want it to be very heavy. With a side of dewy to go with our Kansas humidity. It was easy to blend with a sponge or brush. I got it in the color “Medium,” and if you’re wanting to try it, it’s going to be half off this Saturday as part of Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty. Or if you’re more of a Sephora girl, like myself, they will actually price match it.

It’s regularly $44, but is going to be on sale for $22. That’s a steal, IMO.

It was love at first application with Tom Ford’s Traceless Foundation stick.

It’s more of a Matte finish, but I’ve never had a foundation blend so well and be so buildable. I’m wearing the color Cool Beige.

I have a feeling this is going to be the foundation I reach for for many, many, many years to come.

I also tried, and loved, the Tarte Fake Awake eyeliner. I used it across my lower lash line in both of those pictures above, and it’s the perfect nude color that gives your eyes that filter-enviable brightness. I love that it’s not white, so it isn’t quite as stark. And for a mom who’s about to be getting a lot less sleep, seems more than necessary to fake a less tired look.

The Isle of Paradise self-tanning face drops are also a huge winner. I drop about 4-5 drops in with my nighttime moisture two times a week, and it’s the perfect amount of glow without the fake tan smell or streaks. It’s so good and so easy.

This lip stain from Fenty is also going to be on repeat this summer. It looks super bright in this picture, but fades to a super pretty stain like you’ve just finished eating a big bowl of berries. Perfect for summer, without the full blown stickiness of so many lipglosses or dryness of lipstick. I can see myself swiping it on in the morning to go to one of Harrison’s soccer games or an impromptu afternoon happy hour. I got the color Mai Type.

Those are the products that I got and am already in love with so far! Ok, now tell me, have you gotten any new make-up products lately that you’re obsessed with and I need to try? I’m on a “it’s time to get some new make-up” kick!

Our Spring Home 2023

Spring is my very favorite season of all. When nature comes back to life, plants start to bloom and begin to burst with color. You get those absolutely perfect patio cocktail weather days that just feel like a fresh breath to your soul.

I love the smells of the grill going in the evenings, the kids playing outside and the windows open. It’s just my ultimate happy season.

As soon as March 1st rolls around every year, even though it’s still usually very cold, I’m ready to pack up my winter decor. Bring on the colors, pastels, and cheeriness.

I’m sharing a little peek at our spring home switched up for spring and summer.

Sawyer modeling/napping/hoping that the reason I’m in the living room is to give her a belly rub.

I truly love switching out my shelves for the season.

Always have to have seasonal color with throw pillows, IMO.

The blue striped ones are new this year from Target. And they have a removable cover – all the better to throw them in the wash when my kids invariably wipe their dirty hands on them.

Don’t sleep on the dried flowers at Trader Joe’s! I picked up some dried lavender to put in the vase by my bed, and some pussy willow stems for my outdoor spring containers.

And our kitchen table this spring…

And now I’m going to go daydream about my first cold glass of rose on the patio this spring, post-baby. 😊. Happy spring, friends!

What’s Up Wednesday {07.27.22}

This is always my favorite post of the month. They’re the most fun to go back and read, it’s a little bit of food, a little bit of my Timehop addiction, reading, watching, all wrapped up in one post.

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: I’m trying a new Half Baked Harvest recipe for my resident shrimp lover in the house (Mr. Harrison): Garden Herb Shrimp Scampi. We’re going to attempt to brave the heat this week and grill some burgers and hot dogs, and taco stuffed sweet potatoes, which I’ve never done before either! We’re rounding out the week with a couple of fun sweet treats for the boys to help me make: watermelon popsicles and blueberry cobbler, so I can use up some of the blueberries we picked and froze last month!

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT: It snuck up on me, but my littlest boy is turning 2 this weekend! This past year seemed to fly by, and it’s amazing going back and watching videos of our Jonathan at this time last year. I think we always think about so much changing the first year of life, but my goodness! They change so much in year 1 to 2! Walking, talking, becoming so strong-willed and independent. Love my little guy so stinking much, and watching the boy that he is becoming now!

The 5 Summer Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without

When I decided to narrow my absolutely can’t live without beauty products down to five, it was rough. So actually I ended up with six….but that doesn’t sound nearly as good as a nice odd number like 5! Ha!

In the summer, I’m not big on a lot of make-up. Most days, I opt for nothing but moisturizer and sunscreen. With all the heat and humidity of Kansas City, most days it feels fruitless to put anything besides that for fear of melting in the hot sun.

Lauren’s Favorite Dresses for Summer

Every spring, I find myself on the hunt for some new spring and summer dresses for date nights, dinners with friends, and backyard bbq’s. If I’m honest, I spend almost all of my summer days with the boys wearing sweaty t-shirts and shorts. Running around and keeping up with two little boys lends itself more to the shorts and t-shirt life. But I love throwing on a dress in the summer with some lipgloss to make myself feel more put together for a quick happy hour or date night.

Here’s some of the dresses I’m eyeing for summer!

Friday Favorites {04.29.22}

Well just when I think we may be out of the sickness woods of the winter of 2022, I’m proven wrong again. We have one kid home sick with the flu, and the whole family is on tamiflu. Ah! When will the sickness this year end?!

We’ll be focused on getting our little guy better and hopefully having some fun along the way this weekend. Hope you guys have a great weekend!

In the middle of last week, I surprised Harrison at school before lunch, and we played hooky for the rest of the day going to a Royals baseball game together. Since Jonathan was born, the amount of time I’ve gotten to spend one-on-one with Harrison has gone down significantly. I love having both of the boys, and doing things with them, but it’s so interesting how the dynamics change when you get to focus on just one kid at a time.

Many years ago, like pre-kids, I read a fellow blogger doing a skip day with each of their kids, and I’ve held on to that idea for YEARS thinking I wanted to do the same thing when the time came around. It was the best time to just focus on my big, little man for an afternoon.

My Wash Day Routine for Curly Hair

It’s been a journey learning how to do my mostly naturally wavy hair. I’ve shared the products I use for my curly girl method hair. I still use all of these, except I’ve switched out my Leave-In Conditioner and Gel. but I’ve never shared the exact steps before. So that’s brought me to this place.

It’s taken me a couple of years to really perfect this step-by-step process, and the products that work for my hair. Hopefully you find something that helps you too, if you’re taming your naturally wavy hair looking for a curl defined look!

On wash days, in the shower…

-1- I shampoo using my curl safe shampoo, and then condition immediately. During this conditioning treatment, I use a Wet Brush to brush through my hair. Immediately rinse out conditioner.
