My Third Blogaversary!

Harrison was one year old at the time. I was working in a job that, while I was very good at it, gave me zero energy to get up in the morning to go do. I remember feeling like Harrison was growing so fast. I had memorialized as much of his first year as I possibly could on Instagram. I took up writing my little boys letters each month of their first year of life. A monthly letter to him the first year of his life. In fact, my very first real blog post was a letter to Harrison.

My very first Blog profile picture!

But I was struggling with how to keep up with remembering all of the things about family life and Harrison growing up without those monthly milestones of a first year.

Friday Favorites {07.01.22}

Oh my goodness, this week was busy! Harrison went to a soccer camp, and work seemed to be super busy, but we made it! I hope you had a good week, too! We’ve had a lot of wonderful things going on the past few weeks, and I’m going to share some of my favorites today!

Harrison spent a week at my parents’ cabin with his cousin, Everly. You guys, they had THE BEST time. I have to admit, I was a little nervous going into it. It was his first time away from us for so long, and he’s four years old and his cousin is five, and man, they can be a HANDFUL sometimes. But it sounds like Mimi and Papa more than survived. They thrived! And the kids have so many awesome memories running around the cabin and playing in the forest.

What’s Up Wednesday {06.29.22}

Happy What’s Up Wednesday! A little bit of everything in one post. I LOVE this post every month, and they’re my favorite to read of other blog friends! So let’s get into it!

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: We made HBH’s Chicken Gyros again, because we’re absolutely obsessed with the taziki sauce! We’re also having another Half Baked Harvest recipe this week: Lemon Butter Chicken Piccata, and some easy pasta with TJ’s sauce from the jar to round out the week. 🙂

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

We’re getting ready for our trip to my parents’ cabin in South Dakota. Here are a few pictures from last year at the cabin

June 2022 Book Review

Happy book review day! I’m sorry I disappeared last week. I was feeling exceptionally uninspired, so I just gave myself a week off to recharge. But this week, it’s book review week and What’s Up Wednesday tomorrow. Those are two of my most favorite posts each month!

Last June was my very first book review ever on Sunwashedlinen.com. And it’s all because I found audiobooks. I could finally fit ”reading” into my very busy ”mama” schedule. So happy that I found Audible and that I’ve gotten to read so many books over the past year!

I read three books this month. Two audiobooks and one hard copy book. One I adored, one was pretty good, and one just average. So, let’s get into it…

Friday Favorites: Lauren’s Favorite Media

I thought we’d do something a little bit different today for Friday Favorites. I’m sharing all of my favorites MEDIA related as the first in a segment of ”getting to know more about Lauren.” 🙂

Favorite Movie: My favorite movie of all time is Good Will Hunting, and it has been for years! I can quote pretty much the entire movie by heart. I love the characters, the dialogue, the whole thing.

Omaha!

A few weeks ago, we packed up the kids and took off for a quick roadtrip up the highway from Kansas City to Omaha for the weekend. It’s an easy drive for us, so the perfect change of scenery for a weekend away with the boys. We were only there for two nights, but we had so much fun getting to just focus on our family and the boys. As is so often at home, there are competing priorities and things that need to be done. It was so nice to put that to the side for a few days and focus on my favorite things in life: my boys.

Checking in to our rooms! This was Baby J’s first time in a hotel room, and there was lots to explore!

7 Quick Jonathan Takes (v. II)

-1- When he finds something that we were looking for, he declares ”DARE IT IS!”

-2- Completely obsessed with his mow mow. That’s lawn mower in baby talk.

-3- I love it when he informs me he needs to put on his “sockies” before his shoes.

-4- His favorite part of the alphabet must be ”Q, R, S” because he’ll scream sing that to us over and over and over again.

-5- He’s still my little reader. Still pulls down book after book after book and flips the pages, sometimes pointing at certain things in the book.

-6- Jonathan is my wait and see kid. We had our parent educator over the other week, and she asked me if he ever does puzzles. No – never. No interest. We got one out, and after five minutes Jonathan came and sat down on his own accord, not when Mom suggested he come do the puzzle, and rolled through the puzzle like he’d been doing puzzles every day of forever. My mouth just hung open. Literally the first time I’ve ever seen him do a puzzle. And that’s the way most things go with him. Out of nowhere one day, he sits down and does something that you’ve been asking him to do or say for months.

-7- The way he runs or walks with purpose makes me laugh every time. He has one arm that swings vigorously on his right side, and the other just kind of stays still.

Love this little boy of mine. He is endlessly exhausting because he’s at the age of endless energy, but the need to explore things with no sense of danger. He doesn’t listen to a word I say and has no concept of consequences. But oh my, is he just complete cuteness wrapped up in sweet. Can’t believe that it won’t be much longer before he’s 2!

Friday Favorites {06.10.22}

Happy Friday, friends! It’s been a busy week around here. I was traveling for work for a few days, which always seems to make the week fly by. I hope you have something fun planned for the weekend!

Can I be really honest with you for a sec? 2020/COVID really kind of burned me out to my very core.

I loved doing special adventuring with, back then, just Harrison and me. It filled me up. I used to be on a flexible work arrangement that allowed me to do something special with Harrison every Friday.

But COVID quarantine, working full time with him home, then having both boys be home, honestly just knocked me on my booty. And in the past year, more often than not, even when I’ve had the option of being able to have the boys at home because I had PTO to use or a holiday, I opted to send them to daycare because I truly have felt like I’m still recovering from the depletion that was 2020.

Let’s Look At Our Go-To Summer Lunches

It’s Let’s Look day with Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything! If you’re new here, it’s one day a month that we share a little peak into some aspect of our lives. So far this year, I’ve shared:

Today, we’re sharing our go-to summer lunches.

Let me see, my go-to summer lunches for kids are: peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Easy mac, grilled cheese, and cheese quesadilla. Ha. Doesn’t that sound like your childhood, too?

My adult go-to summer lunches look a little bit different than the kids, though.

Option 1: In the summer, I usually pick up at least one bag of pre-packaged salad a week to have on hand. I like a spring mix or a spring mix & baby spinach. Half of the time, I also pick up a pack of the already hard-boiled eggs to stick in my fridge as well, because I’m unbelievably lazy when it comes to having to pre-make anything for lunches.

The Dirt Pot

Last year, we formally became the owners of a dirt pot.

“What’s a dirt pot?” you might ask.

Well, it’s a large planter that sits on our patio that is filled with dirt. Compost dirt, to be exact.

We acquired the dirt pot because I noticed something about Harrison when he was very young. He loved to use Mommy’s garden tools and dig in the dirt. He’d spend a long time for a 1 year old digging, dumping, and exploring.
