Dear Jonathan (v. VI)

The time between five and six months sped up infinitely. We lived a whirlwind of doctors appointments, going to ‘school’ for the first time, and long cuddles of exhaustion in the evening for both of us.

Each night, though, finally, exhaling from the day and rocking you while you sleep, I remember how lucky I am. Lucky to be a mom. To be YOUR mom. To me, little boy, you are perfect. A blessing to be your calm and safe place at the end of every day. So very blessed.

Happy six months, my little love.

Love,

Mommy

**Hey friends, I’ve been wrapped up with work lately, and didn’t get a chance to write much over the past weekend. So, instead of throwing together a bunch of posts that I don’t love, I’m going to take the rest of the week off. I’ll see you back here on Tuesday! And Go Chiefs!**

7 Quick Takes (v. VI)

If you’re new around here, every once in awhile I like to round up seven quick things that are making me laugh or melting my heart about Harrison.

I love going back to read these because it’s an easy way that I can memorialize these small little bits of his personality as he grows.

-1- Harrison greets me every morning and every evening after coming home from daycare with the same proclamation. “DRY UNDIES!!!” So proud of you, bud.

What’s Up Wednesday {01.27.21}

Before I get into What’s Up Wednesday, I just wanted to thank you all for the support and love for me and little baby J yesterday, when I blogged about his plagiocephaly and baby helmet. Both here and on Instagram, there were just so many kind words. I’m so very thankful. It took me some time to process everything that was happening with Jonathan for myself, and then be ready to talk openly about it. I know, though, how much I appreciate others vulnerability in the less than perfect moments of life because of how much I learn from them. So, anyways, I just wanted to say, “Thanks!”

Ok – I love going back and reading these posts. A little window into what’s happening in our life at the Lanes lately. But somehow, my last What’s Up Wednesday was in October. I don’t know how, or what happened in life…but it’s high time to share a little Lane life.

I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

I don’t know how it happened, but I’ve got so many good leftovers in our fridge that we’re going to be eating leftovers pretty much all week. And a good thing too because this week is super busy for me at work.

  • Sunday: Leftovers
  • Monday: Leftovers
  • Tuesday: Leftovers…or maybe Beef with Broccoli
  • Wednesday: Leftovers
  • Thursday: Pulled pork tacos from my parents!
  • Friday: Carry out dinner

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

A lot lately, I’ve curled up in Harrison’s bed putting him down for the night and told him stories about things he used to do when he was little.

Like how he would come into our bed Saturday morning, and jump right into the middle. He’d get himself all comfy cozy under the covers, and we’d watch Sesame Street. Lately, Harrison has loved hearing stories about things he did when he was younger.

Also, TODAY is our niece, Everly’s, fourth birthday! Happy birthday, cousin Evie! This was just last year…

And now she’s got her own sense of style. Have to say her style at four is more impressive than mine at 36.

I wish we could be eating sprinkle cake, running around your basement, and opening presents with you today!

Plagiocephaly + a Baby Helmet

It was at Jonathan’s two month appointment that our pediatrician first pointed out that the back of his head was flatter than the other. Both Nathan and I had noticed it, too. Primarily because we knew what to look for this time around. Harrison, also, had some head flatness on one side of his head. Likely from sleeping for long periods of time very early in his life and preferring to have his head to one particular side. Jonathan, also, was a good sleeper pretty early, and the doctor gave us some exercises to help us work with him to start stretching his neck muscles to help him to put less pressure on the flat side of his head.

Friday Favorites {01.22.21}

It’s been a crazy week at the Lane house. Baby J and I have been running from one doctor appointment to the next, all while trying to juggle a busy time at work. I’m thankful for some rest this upcoming weekend, the promise of good take-out to celebrate my birthday with my boys, and Chiefs football on Sunday (hopefully with our main QB!). Happy Friday, friends!

My Home Office

Around mid-March last year, our home office became one of the most important rooms in our house. I’m sure that many of you can relate. All of sudden I was spending 8, 9, sometimes 12 hours a day in my home office. I’ve made a few upgrades over that time to make things a little more comfortable.

For so long I had a plastic folding table as my desk. We upgraded to a regular desk after looking EVERYWHERE for a good fit. This desk is from World Market. It’s been nice to move up to a real desk, but I wish the drawer in the desk was a little bit larger.

Turning 36!

Whooo! It’s my birthday TOMORROW. Year 35 both did and didn’t go as planned. At this time last year, little Jonathan was very well baking and set to arrive in July. But as I’ve said many times on here, his birth and my maternity leave was so far from anything I could have imagined a year ago.

This year has taught us a lot of really hard lessons. I thought I’d share a few of the things I’ve learned about myself over the past year.

Friday Favorites {01.15.21}

I’m not sure where this week went. I’ve been stealing away as many minutes as I can rocking my sweet baby J to sleep in the evenings. Harrison has taken a liking to a game he calls “car crash,” which involves pushing matchbox cars into a big “car crash” pile. Everyone has settled into a new routine getting out the door in the morning, and playing and having dinner together at night. It’s kind of almost felt…dare I say…normal…? (Whaaaat? What’s normal in a pandemic world???). Anyways, happy Friday friends!

Let’s Look At…My Coffee Station

If you’re new around here, once a month I link up with two of my favorite blogs (Shay @ Mix and Match Mama and Erika @ A Little Bit of Everything), to share a “look” into some little aspect of our life. Here’s a peak back at what we’ve “looked” at last year:

It’s a new year, and that means a whole new set of prompts and things we’ll “look at” this upcoming year.

Recipe Round-Up II

I love a good recipe recommendation because more often than not, I feel stuck in a recipe rut. Especially during a time that we’re eating out a lot less, it seems like our recipe rotation needs a new infusion of good recipes every couple of months. Back in June, I posted my first recipe round-up. What we liked, what we didn’t. It seemed about time that almost a half a year later, I should show you some new recipes that we’ve tried and added to our regular rotation.

Let me know if you try one and how you like it!
