What’s Up Wednesday {09.27.23}

Happy WUW post. You guys know I love this post. A little bit of everything from our life lately.

As always, I’m linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to share with you what’s going on in our life!

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK: It’s still pretty hot here, so I haven’t switched over to more fall and winter type dishes. We’re eating grilled chicken, sausage pot pie, and homemade carnitas burrito bowls this week.

2: WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

Lately, the videos of Jonathan popping up on my phone from a year ago have me marveling at how much has changed for him in a year.

He was still a big talker even last year, but his language has just exploded in the past year.

Remembering the way their little voices used to sound is the hardest part for me to keep in my memories. You can see them physically grow, as they grow out of clothes. You see their face shape changing and their hair. But their voice…that’s just harder to remember. And I’m endlessly thankful for the videos I took of these boys. And reminded to keep recording them now!

Friday Favorites {09.22.23}

We made it through my first week back to work! It went really well. It doesn’t feel that different when Aidan’s grandparents are watching him right now. Certainly less daunting than doing the whole daycare transition, wondering how he naps, etc. Either way, we made it to the weekend!

Nathan’s mom gave us a lovely “date night” with just baby Aidan on Friday night, while she spoiled the big boys. And I think you’d say that they had a great time!

September 2023 Garden Tour

It’s my last garden tour of 2023. I’ve already started pulling some of these plants, particularly the ones that were on the downward trajectory. Others, I’ll probably leave for another week or two. I like having the garden tidied up around the beginning of October. Having to be outside working in the garden when it’s chilly is not my favorite, so I really try to wrap it up before our weather really turns.

My favorite month for this pot:

Our Fall 2023 Bucket List

If you missed my posts last week, yesterday was my big “back to work” day. And in the scope of things, I’m feeling pretty good. Focusing instead on all of the fun things we want to do coming up, and how lucky we are that Aidan’s grandparents are helping to take care of him for a few weeks here while we wait for a spot to open up at our daycare.

I sat down with Harrison on Friday while he was out of school, and we made and decorated our Fall Bucket List for this year. And Jonathan later approved it. 🙂

Friday Favorites {09.15.23}

Today is hard. It’s my last day with baby Aidan on leave. My last day of maternity leave with my last baby. Today is just hard. I’ve been trying to soak all of his little babyness in this week, but I still feel the sadness at the idea that I won’t be there to see every minute of his life now.

So thankful for five and a half months with my little boy.

Let’s Look…At Our Evening Routine

If there is any time of day that is the biggest $h!t show of the day around the Lane house, it’s the evening. It feels like constant chaos to get kids (and adults) fed, food put away, clean up the kitchen, bathed, and down for bed.

Which has to explain why I kept forgetting in this whirlwind of our “evening routine” to take any pictures document what we usually do. It’s just survival, folks. Pure survival. And hoping that my children aren’t hangry when they come home from school…which also happens to coincide with my only hangriness…WHILE trying to cook dinner. And waffling between just letting them have the dang snack so they stop whining and wanting them to actually eat the meal I’m making. But I digress…

Here we go…our evening routine, lately…

Aidan takes a catnap around 4:00 – so I like to think of our evening starting then.

Fall Overalls Try On!

When I was in high school, I loved overalls. They weren’t stylish…at the time. But I wore them. Every single Wednesday. Overall Wednesday. Yes, I was a nerd. Yes, my high school friends still to this day remember Overall Wednesdays and tease me about it. I guess it was just my thing.

Fast forward to today, and lo and behold, the overalls are allegedly in style. (As our parents always say, style comes back around. I really should have hung onto those Birkenstock clogs and overalls.)

So I gathered up three different styles for a little fall try on! See which ones I decided to keep…

Pair 1:

These fit fairly fitted through the top and then had a wide leg.

Friday FALL Favorites {09.08.23}

I always seem to be in the minority around this time of year. I don’t wait excitedly for fall with bated breath, eager to get the latest seasonal drink at my local coffee shop. I don’t pull out all the fall decor starting September 1st at home. I think I’ve finally come to accept that it’s just not my season. There are beautiful things about it: the cooler weather, the changing leaves. There are things that I look forward to so much: going to the pumpkin patch, picking out Halloween costumes, our wedding anniversary, and chili simmering on the stove.

The changing of the seasons also brings a fresh perspective, at the very least. And in about two to three weeks, I’ll be particularly annoyed by the number of flies that seem to make their way into my house through doors left open by little hands. At that point, I will declare myself “over the heat” and ready for cooler temps of fall and a nice freeze to kill off the bugs. It happens every year that way like clockwork.

You all are full blown fall people, though. I know. I’ve asked before, and I’m in the minority.

I dip my toe into the fall pool around this time of year. There are just a few things that I just can barely seem to resist. And in a couple of weeks, I’ll be there with you in my oversized sweatshirt and joggers, and a cup of hot coffee in my hand.

I’ve picked up some of my favorite fall things for when I’m ready to fully embrace fall in a couple of weeks. 🙂

Candles always feel like coziness and fall to me. And this is one of my favorites. I ordered a couple to have on hand a few weeks ago.

A few new fresh fall stems. I’m a bit of a stickler on fake flowers. They have to look really good and almost real for me to buy them. It’s the gardener in me. Both of these are from Hobby Lobby and met my faux floral standard. 🙂 White berry stem + Blush pink berry stem

I brought in a handful of hydrangea stems to dry for fall decor. Put a little bit of water in the bottom of your vase, and let it naturally evaporate for gorgeous dried hydrangeas this fall.

And some pumpkin spice oatmilk for my afternoon decaf cold brew.

What are the things that make you feel like fall?

Our Backyard Shed from Tuff Shed

We recently finished up our backyard shed project. Over a year ago, we had a downpour of rain for several days straight. The back corner of our yard, which is a low lying spot in the yard, flooded. It looked like a small lake around our shed.

The shed hadn’t been in great shape for awhile. The foundation under the floor needed to be replaced, and the flooding of the backyard kind of sealed the deal.
